who measures PAR?

as above, in the overseas forum, many people (in fact most) lay their hands on an Apogee PAR meter in one way or another (some form clubs and loan their par meters out) to measure what their lighting (most people do it for LED) is putting. i've never heard of anyone mentioning about measuring PAR values here. anyones does them?

Being in the business, of course, we do measure PAR, but, more importantly, we measure spectrum. This is what counts with lighting. A great PAR from the wrong spectrum does nothing for the corals.

PAR is a nice thing to know, but, it is certainly not necessary when using a good quality lighting, regardless of T-5, halide or LEDs. You corals will tell your eyes enough, if you just take a look and note any stress symptoms/sign of growth. Corals will do much better with less light than too much.

Regardless of the lighting, water quality and movement play equally, if not more important roles in coral well being.

just some thoughts,

Jamie

I'm not sure about rental service... and i know that buying an Apogee is way too expensive.

I was thinking about the Seneye sensor. They detect PAR values and spectrum and LUX levels too. At almost half the price of an Apogee AND you can monitor other parameters too.

Saw this at Madpetz. Any thoughts if you would use such a device?

Im thinking of using such a meter as i will be venturing into LEDs first time for the new tank and would be great to know if the light fixture i would like to use will actually work well. If i need supplementary lighting or not.
