BearishCat
Starting this thread in a bid to document our journey into owning our little piece of ocean. Hopefully we can be disciplined enough to make the effort to do it. We just got our HDB rental flat after going for our BTO first appointment. Seeing that we will be probably staying put for about 3 years, we decided to dive into reefing. We got the tank set from a reefer who is upgrading, it is a 3x2x2 ft 10mm braceless tank and the sump tank is 2.5ft. Will try to upload pictures when possible (have already made it to the cycling process without taking any pictures ) Any comments, advices and critiques are welcome. BearishCat
11th Jan 2014 Tank arrived. We spent the whole afternoon giving both the display and sump tank a good scrub down. Clean up the entire cabinet as well, however we had to remove both the doors as the hinges are very loose. Seems like we have to find a way to attached the doors back. Headed down to C328 / Polyart / Marine Life after that to get some stuff. Was initially looking at the Reef Octopus Diablo DC pump (FNM out of stock) due to its low wattage, have to settle for the DD 3000l return pump at Marine Life instead. We bought the following at C328 - Red Sea Coral Pro salt (22kg bucket) - $75 Some foam filter - $5 We also got 3 packets of sand from Polyart at $4 per pack. We then ordered the Crystal Plus DI unit, 20lbs of Caribsea Ocean Direct Live Sand from FNM. Nothing else we can do while waiting for the delivery of the DI unit. BearishCat
Finally we were able to wash the sand, add in the live sand and also managed to buy some LRs to seed and start the cycling period. Hoping to get some more LR or dead rocks though, and also looking for a skimmer and a FR. The good thing is that currently without lights and only heat from the 45w DD pump, my tank temperature is 26.5 Some random pics of the random rock scape, will redo after getting some more rocks. The sand bed, we used normal sand bought from PolyArt as the base and then place the Caribsea Ocean Direct sand on top of it. The effect turns out to be what we have in mind. The DD return pump Will post again when new toys are in
