reef garden
Very awesome tank! I could never ever get sps to color up on any of my previous tanks. They all turn brown on me I'm not the sps expert in this but browned out sps is usually an indication that the lighting levels are insufficient or the nutrient levels are too high? yellowtang
Actually po4 too low can also bleached out sps..... Cheers, James Correction: Sudden too low po4 can bleach or rtn the Sps. Low Po4 is good for Sps, but not a sudden drop in Po4. As a matter of fact, Sps hates sudden drastic change, whether be it flow, PO4, light, Ca or Kh. Some Sps are more forgiving than others. Some are very sensitive, a good example is Aussie echinata . Home grown Sps , months or years in the tank are more tolerant to swings in the conditions . They are worth looking at to buy .Mine are fine examples... Haha... Cheers Yt Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
SRC Member Mike Tan Posted October 12, 2014 SRC Member Share Posted October 12, 2014 what can you suggest are the most tolerant/easy sps that are more likely to stay colored up? bird's nest? monti? soory, I'm total sps newbie here, just researching for future reference. SRC Member james72 Posted October 12, 2014 SRC Member Share Posted October 12, 2014 YT, I learn abt this low po4 bleach thing from mike pallette video (its one of the video posted lately in my thread). He mentioned po4 is the energy building blocks for corals. If po4 is too low(<0.01) or zero, growth will slow down and eventually starts to bleach. Which kind of make perfect sense to me as I also notice the sps seems happier with a little po4 then no po4. The colours are deeper too. Ps: tofu, sorry for invading your thread Cheers, James Quote Cheers, James Reviving my reef tank : Crystal glass 53" x 22" x 17" rimless (inclusive of 12"x22"x17" IOS) Life Reef HVS3-24 with mazzei venturi ATI Sunpower 8 x 39w T5 (4 x Blue plus, 2 x Aqua blue special, Coral plus) ZET Light 3 x 3w LEDs moonlight Arctica 1/3 Hp + 1/4 Hp back up Vortech mp40w x 3 + Jebao wp25 Eheim 1264 x 3 + water blaster 5000 Vortech back up battery TLF-150 + Rowaphos Activated carbon Kamoer 3 channel + CaCl2 + NaHCo3 150L Refugium with DSB, miracle mud, cheato 2ft T5 x 2 light tubes for refugium

That's why ulns like zeovit or fauna system strive to have 0 PO4 and then use their prescribed food to control the sps growth and colour, without which they will bleach and die. And these systems usually keep very little fish do as to keep the nutrient down. Personally, I like to keep many fishes, feed them well so that they shit well, and the sps live well. But the nutrient exporters must be there. Cheers YT Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

tofubox
Found a new way to take photos using my phone cam without any editing. This is the raw image without any filter or edit. Taken under just pure led. Usually had my t5s on when taking, always turned out blueish. The bad side is, I can't capture red, pink and brighter blues, like rose mille, blue lokani, ice fire echinata, etc. Pls ignore the stag on the right, recently got it from iwarna which already had parts of its tissue blown off by direct flow from wavemaker. Hope it recovers. Also notice plenty of new growth on my blue stag. Rainbow stylo has also coloured up really well in the new tank. Cream birdnest in the middle recently grew a fair bit and sting a coral close by. So far no casualties. But hope i didn't just jinx myself!!!! tofubox
Came down in the middle of the night to look at my tank. Was surprise to see my cardinals actually swimming around and inside the elegance coral. They just swim in circles and go in once a while, kinda like hosting corals that clowns do. Anyone had such experience before? Its the first time i've seen such a thing happen. I know clowns do host elegance corals, and i also did a search on google. Seems like only banggai cardinals are capable of such thing. Hope the elegance won't eat them! If u look closely, u can see 2 or 3 of them inside.
