SRC Member arcanehacker Posted March 3, 2004 SRC Member Share Posted March 3, 2004 easiest way is to siphon out when doing water change. but it seems almost impossible with grade 0 sand.. Quote Why do we use "My 2 cents worth" when 1 cents are not legal tender in Singapore anymore? Shouldn't it be 5 cents worth? SRC Member Acanthurus pyroferus Posted March 3, 2004 SRC Member Share Posted March 3, 2004 Place the siphon hose as close as you can...thats why grade "0" sand is not really practical. Slightest movement and your reef tank is snowing....
KingFish
Detritus will build up no matter what you do. Within which can trap phosphates and will be released when disturbed. Critters & cleanup crew such as cukes, sandstar and even nassarius may help to a certain extent but maintaining good water circulation in your tank to prevent detritus from even building up, is a long term solution. It'll keep it in the water column, and let the filter floss and protein skimmer pick them up.

Infinitereef
If you have LR, the worms in the LR will come out at night and eat it. If not get some fighting Conch snail. They are the best in vaccumming your sandbed. Eat diatoms as well.
SRC Member Yellowbelly Posted March 3, 2004 SRC Member Share Posted March 3, 2004 You can try blue cheek goby, it been sifting my sand since it came> it is good as it help to move the detritus into the surface to be filtered off

We don't have Detrivore kits and i think most of the rare corals and fishes are seldom seen here as often as in US..
