SRC Member pcw Posted December 17, 2014 SRC Member Share Posted December 17, 2014 I recently set up a small tank using live sand, dead rock and NSW. The rock had diatoms within 2 weeks. I think you need to check for your nitrates.

SRC Member IshDeOne Posted December 17, 2014 Author SRC Member Share Posted December 17, 2014 Use refractometer. Nitrates below 25ppm. Yes bro. I find it strange tat i dn have an algae issue. Any advices besides adding liverock? One reefer adviced me to use a chiller since my temp at 29.0-30.4 deg
SRC Member Shadow Walker Posted December 17, 2014 SRC Member Share Posted December 17, 2014 Could it be because of your carbon filter and carbon pellet's contribution that yr tank's nutrient low tats why no algae? In the first month of setup I also complain why my tank no grow algae. The first month there should be a diatom boom followed by green algae, so all these totally never happened? By the way what's the brand of your test kit plays a part too. Regarding chiller, I think does not really make a difference for your situation ba You see so many reply to your thread, over here lots of ppl will help Quote Shadow Walkers's 4 ft Shallow Reef Chronicles 4 Ft - 120.35.35 3 Ft Sump Skimmer: Bubble Magus NAC7 Chiller: Hailea 1/4 HS66A Lights: T5 4 tubes ATI + Maxspect Glaive Led Refugium with Liverocks and Cheato and lots of pods Refugium light: Par38 Full spectrum Return pump: Hailea HX6540..stupid pump so noisy Wavemaker: Maxspect Gyre
SRC Member Shadow Walker Posted December 17, 2014 SRC Member Share Posted December 17, 2014 Bro, go read up on prodibio. I think you can use it to boost up your tank's immune system and make things stable. reef garden
Bro, Ok, is yours an IOS aquarium? I see there's mechanical and chemical filtration with the filter wool and carbon. What about biological filtration? What media are you using? What's your filtration rate and pump size? I suspect your flow is too low. Are there any wavemakers to help improve water circulation because I don't think I see any? Your nitrates are a bit high, how often do you do your water change? Anyway, think carefully about what fishes you want because I feel some of your choices are unsuitable eg. lion fish, mandarin. Thanks.
