Nice tank!

Its about one month before cycling is complete. So before that water is cloudy and smell a little foul. Ammonia should be zero and nitrate below 20ppm before you can add anything.

You can start your water change regime once your ammonia is zero and add livestock slowly eg one a week or 2 weeks. Later there will be a brown diatom bloom that covers your liverock. Pretty ugly but they go off after couple days to a week. You might want to off the lights to discourage algae growth.

Happy reefing!

lol forgot about the bacteria dosing. Never used them myself so i cannot comment. Heard that they helped to shorten the cycling period. So no harm trying, since its a long month wait.

Dosing bacteria definitely shorten the cycling process. No doubt abt it.

hi. fyi your tank is 20gal not 15gal.

24 x 12 x 12 =3456 cu. inches

3456 divided by 231 = 14.96 gallons or rounded off as

15 GALLONS ??

Your tank name already state 20 gallon.

And the dimension is as below (pull from online), unless you measured otherwise.

  • Dimensions: Length: 24” Width: 15” Height: 13”

Ammonia spike is a normal sign the tank is cycling. It should take 7-10 days for the ammonia to continue to climb. Then one fine day it will suddenly drop to low or zero. Same for nitrite.

Nitrate experience is a little different from last time i ask around. Mine dropped to almost zero, some reefers just do large water change to drop it. Maybe becos i have algae turf scrubber and chaeto in sump.

Ammonia and nitrite must be undectectable. Nitrate preferably below 20ppm. If u put in put in clean up crew now, high chance they will up lorry. Its hard but a patience goes a long way.
