SRC Member LittleNat1 Posted February 13, 2020 SRC Member Share Posted February 13, 2020 I plan to get a tank 120x60x40cm. My idea is that i will separate the two cabinets, put a piece of plywood (12mm) or two across the two cabinets and place the tank on the plywood. These are ikea malm chests. Any idea whether this will work? E.g. the weight of the tank. Sent from Singapore Reef Club mobile app
SRC Member Ashtrax Posted February 13, 2020 SRC Member Share Posted February 13, 2020 (edited) I would advice you to get the same cabinet. Place 3 instead of 2. The best is to build a tank with sump. AloyMao888
IKEA. Personally I don't trust their woods.
SRC Member R0B Posted February 25, 2020 SRC Member Share Posted February 25, 2020 Ikea looks strong, but as soon as it gets wet the wood bloats and looses structural integrity. Your tank is going to weigh just short of 300kg when wet. So I would be nervous. So option 1. Make sure you never get the wood wet. Option 2. Get some 30, 40 or 45 series aluminium and some marine plywood. Build something that will take a six foot tank.... because you will catch the bug and want a bigger tank shortly hahaha.Sent from Singapore Reef Club mobile app
SRC Member ryanlio Posted February 25, 2020 SRC Member Share Posted February 25, 2020 After you get all those stuff.. your price may come close to this. http://www.sgreefclub.com/forum/index.php?/topic/164843-3x2x1.5ft-tank-and-cabinet-for-sale-at-$380Sent from Singapore Reef Club mobile app
dizzydiscus
Agree with Rob. Need to keep the wood dry. Even solid wood from IKEA are usually pine which is not suitable for marine projects. Short term pain long term gain. Would recommend to go with a larger tank or accept the chiller by the sides.Sent from Singapore Reef Club mobile app
