Effectiveness on Salifert Phosphates Testkit?

Hi all,

been tinking about buying a Salifert's Phosphate testkit, but when I looked at the colour chart, its seems that the shades of blue are very close to one another. Anyone currently using this testkit? Would like to know how high ( how blue on the colour chart ) when your rowas is saturated?

I'm tinking about getting one of these testkits as I always seem to have diatom problems and would like to test my phosphates before changing my rowas...

Anyone got experience?

My experience on Salifert test kit use in combination with Rowaphos is, once the test show any shade of blue, change the Rowaphos. Like that you don't have to bother what shade of blue is the test result.

totally agree,

used to have at least some shade of blue,

even after water changes

i thought the kit was faulty

then ran rowa in a DIY FR.

happy lke bird when no colour.

now any time there is a bluish tint,

change ROWA

I have the test kit also. But find that the result is always clear water with very very light tint of blue. After a while, I stop testing it liao since I have no more cyno. Thinking that just have to replace the rowaphos every 2-3 months will be fine.

Suggestions so far.

1. Remove coral chips and ceramic rings and replace with live rocks. removed...looking for live rocks now

2. get rid of most of the filter cloth

3. First Buy!!! Skimz FR with Sorb4 and eheim pump

4. Re-doing the sump.....I~aquatic doing up the plans.

5. Lighting MH+T5 or T5 only? how many?

6. Chiller?

7. Wave maker

8. check valve on the return line to prevent sump overflow (great idea)

9. Refugium? Anything to replace it? a FR of some sort maybe?

Rav-65,

You might wan to do a PO4 test on your tapwater to find out if that's the root of your diatoms growth or is it your overfeeding or detritus accumulation?

Hmm... guess i would do as advised... will change the rowas as sson as any tinge of blue is detected, but my last 2L of rowas expired pretty fast, about 1L per month, I do feed pretty heavily, coz i wan the fishes to be healthy and make sure the angels are not hungry, dun wan them to attack my corals... :)

Thanxs Guys!

just tested for phophate and seems like i have about 0.3 to 1.0ppm (in between the 2nd and 3rd clours on the colour chart) however i've only been using rowaphos for about a month. IS that still too early to change the rowaphos?? or am i not using enough rowaphos??
