hi all ,

just a run through of the stages i've gone through :

march 03 : started my tank using 5" dsb 0 sand , 24kg lr , along the way encounter diatoms then red & green slime , after which comes hair algae.

during the first 4mths i constantly change 40% water every week plus constantly removing of algae every few days .

today i am glad as more or less algae is under control except for some in my sump. now doing 20% water change every 2 weeks.

my present parameter:

amonia 0

nitrite 0

nitrate 0.5

cal 420

alk 12

ph 8.2

phosphate .03

dosing c-balance 2 part , dt planton , marine snow , reef solution , calciun .

i learn alot by reading through members post in src and reef central

to clear the diatoms , i had to clear the top layer of sand by vacuuming , and i did that every week for 3wks , and after noticing the diatoms not coming back , i then top up with new layer of sand and it been 2mths without diatoms , i also cut back on feeding , lighting and weekly change of water(30%).

Dear all,

Nice tank.

I am going a bit off topic hor. :off:

Is it advisable to change water so often (every week)? And so much (40%)? What are the advantage?

I am getting different advises from shop owner. One says change 25% every month. Another says change 10% every 2-3 months.

Joeydanielle,

How much you pay for the Metal halide ?

Where did you get the MH from ?

Heard from many reefers when we have a MH we must have Chiller as the heat dissipated from the MH is strong ?

Seldom come across Nano tank reefers who used MH ?
