Hi guys, my marine tank is an outdoor tank.... and recently the temperatures are getting high and my corals start to loose color.... I would like to know wat is the reason.... 1)Temp??? or 2)Sudden increase in brightness???

My tank have 3 DC fans blowing and somtimes i add in bottled ice to cool the temp.. When using the bottled ice i only put it partially submerged in water so that there wont be a sudden change in temp....

Any suggestions to bring back the color of my corals???

More likely the temp... can provide the highest and lowest temp the water hits throughout the day? Btw, r u running a chiller??

nope never invest on a chiller as i might be upgrading...

not sure if its bcos my thermometer lousy.. but the reading is like 29-28 degress...

usually when its abt to early afternoon i will put a bottled ice to prevent temp from going to 30 degrees....

Unlikely an outdoor tank would not hit tempertures higher than 28-29C. So you thermometer is probably spoilt... Also, the bottled ice would only help that very little, not good enough IMHO...

The coral is probably stressed due to the temperature or the tremendous swing in daily temperature... since u intend to upgrade, suggest you get a bigger chiller ( big enough for your new intended tank ) and run it in this tank now...

I have a outdoor tank too...crucial to run a chiller...as ambient temperature can reach 37 degree even under a roof( I tried raising plankton with flourescent lights outdoor) If you have lighting which I assume you have. It raise the temperature of the water. Fans help a little only. I can only guess the water in yor tank would be around 28-30 degrees.Bottled ice /ice blocks will fluctuate the water too drastically (more than you imagine) Bottom line = Invest in a chiller!!! Place your brain on the sand bed..away from the heat of lights
