hi all, i thought of converting my 5ft fresh water tank into marine.. i know that sump filter will be ideal (skimmer can be install in sump). but the cabinet stand is customise as such that there is no space for a sump tank. therefore, the only choice is canister filter (thought of using eheim 2028, ok?)

what about protien skimmer? since no sump, what type of skimmer can be use? hanging outside the tank? best if u guys can help me identify the model of skimmer to use for 5 footer tank. advices needed... :thanks::thanks:

Bro- converting from fresh water to salt water... not as simple as that, Consider, 1) live rocks, 2) sand or no sand, 3) Protein skimmer (which you are-Beckett is great, you can get 1 around $600 fot the size you are mentioning. 4) cycling the water for a few weeks before introducing Life!. Cannister filters work ok, provided you do weekly water changes of 15 to 20 percent.But a sump is definitely a better option..Aquamarin ar Jalan Kayu , have a good range/price. check them out

also... freshwater tanks are not built to hold as much weight as saltwater.. eg. freshwater tanks glass can be thinner... becareful bro...

yes bro ... chk how thick is yr glass? 10mm minimum acceptable for marine.

Main Tank : 48 inch by 36 inch by 28 inch (2 sides starphire glass)

i think it would be best to work out your current budget before converting your freshwater to marine. It not as simple as what others or LFS mentioned.... and also, find out more info from bros in here..before your take your next move....sounds easy but when u started it....there's no turning back.... ;)

thanx for the feedback... wow!!! $600 for a skimmer!!! never thought it will be so ex.. is there any hanging outside tank skimmer thats around $200?

may i know where can i buy those accessories like eheim 2028, recommended skimmer, MH light etc all under one roof at reasonable price? dun mind if not cheapest in town. coz want to save trip, borrow car for half a day only..

ya, btw my tank is 10mm in thickness..
