I know of some women who consider that the more expensive ones mean that their husbands 'sayang' them more... <_<

that is when the watches are gifts...

Bags = Status, this is also prevalent. Prada...Gucci...Christian Dior...Louis Vitton lah...blah...blah...blah...

Shoes? Not many as the label is usually not visible but some women buy them because of the comfort and make.

But at many times, when speaking to someone I hardly know, be them some sales person from boutique shops, new acquaintance etc, can see that they take a glance at your watch at some point or another during a conversation.

Is it because they are curious to know the brand ones wearing or look upon it as a guide as to how well off the person is?

For bag, I do agree can be a status symbol but it can be seen at a distance, whereas watches can only be determined at close distance and personally I do not like the way the other person 'steal' a look at your watch and yet still talking to you at the same time.

BTW, I only wear a casio watch that keeps atomic time......poor man :(

Justiana, that's okay. :)

It is when they showed the watches around at practically every occasion. That's a bit too 'erh'.... :P

My hubby even went to hunt for those that have changeable straps when I was involved in converting them to swaroski straps. This is practical and not indulging... :P

Frankly speaking...rolex is not a bad watch. The parts are cheap if replacement needed and servicing is cheap compared to other high end watches. Normal service is about $300 excluding parts. A patek will cost close to $900 for a service.

The bearings inside a rolex are quite well built and last a long time and only service needed are lubricating service once it starts to loose time.

However, if one is talking about value over time, the sports range of rolex will only appreciate in value over time whereas most pateks for examplethe complications will sure appreciate over time. Can take it as an investment.

Rolex price increases about 6 to 8% every year. The Pateks increases even more....example an World Time yellow gold cost about $15,000 in year 2000 and now that same watch will set you back $23,000 in year 2005. The appreciation will be even more if the model is stopped production and some shops even ask you to name a price for those out of production model.
