URI VHO Info and Comments needed

Dear fellow reefers,

Wanted some honest opinions and experiences regarding the above lighting systems.

I am planning my new 4x2.5x2 mixed reef and wanted to keep the heat & electrical consumption to the bare minimum.

Understand that VHO will contribute lesser heat as compared to MH but wonder whether it will colour as good as the MH.

I know VHO is super popular in the states and wonder why it did not catch on here.

How many VHO will I need if I intend to use VHO solely?

TIA! :D;)

Bro,

Why don't go for a 4' x 4' x 2.5'? or 4' x 3' x 2.5'?:idea: It gives much better feel of depth? Then we can droolz over the rockscape of a valley with fishes swimming thru it in the tank :D:D

IMHO

1. Equipment Cost

2. Running cost

3. Stock availablity

you might need to put that comment on the states....dun think many bro here have that.....for me i'm also curious of the VHO opiton, but becuase currently only 1 shop here carries it - the options are a little bit limiting.....

anyway, do keep us updated....i'm also very curious about this technology....

I think the guys at GARF are using URI tubes to grow their SPS.

Basically, if you want to run VHO, the ballast, tubes and all are quite expensive

But if you tame me, we shall need each other.

From what I know URI Tubes, Encaps and Icecaps Ballast are available at Reef Depot.

Thus, I believe there bounds to be someone here that have tried or have comtemplated trying.

Anyone? ;)

Yes Reef Depot do have them but if I were you, I'd rather run T5s :P

Gouldien,

I was wondering tube replacement might be risky here. since tineng mention there's only one dealer here and you could just be that very few among the VHO users, chances are the dealer may not want to support the sales of VHO for long.

Perhaps you would wan to look at how to better cope with the heat from MH or join danano? into the T5 mode

Yah loh. Good points. :D

I haven't actually decided on VHO.

I also heard that Danano uses full T5s without MH, would be good if he could enlighten us on his choice. ;)
