SRC Member dkk08 Posted February 11, 2006 SRC Member Share Posted February 11, 2006 Hi guys... I've decided to start a Nano Tank on my office after numerous requests by my colleagues to change my planted Nano tank into a Marine Nano... anyway they're sponsoring some of the stuff and I'm just sponsoring my time and effort Tank is a 14"x9"x10" Five Plan tank 1x36W PLL No skimmer HOB refugium 1-1.5" thick sand bed Tank is still in process of cycling, all sand and LR and water are from my home tank so how long do u guys suggest I cycle the tank? Anyway I've yet to decide on wat to keep in it... A pair of True Percular and 1 Anemone? A pair of Harlequin shrimps and perhaps a few other small gobies and some frags of LPS/softies? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated Quote “Frogs have it easy, they can eat what bugs them” "If you have no critics you'll likely have no success." - Malcolm X Glory Glory Man Utd! nkh
The flow is alright as long no splashing in seen. But a tank without overflow u will need surface skimmer to clear the oily surface. U need to to place mini powerhead to help aid water circulation in the tank, the overflow from ur filter will not be enough. 2cents view
SRC Member dkk08 Posted February 11, 2006 Author SRC Member Share Posted February 11, 2006 Noted nkh will add a small pump on mon... as for surface skimming... how do I do that... but really I had a 2ft Nano before but there's no oily surface... only my freshwater planted tanks have oily surface Quote “Frogs have it easy, they can eat what bugs them” "If you have no critics you'll likely have no success." - Malcolm X Glory Glory Man Utd! Flaming Nemo
dkk80, looking at your tank, is not advisable to keep anemone. think your condition can substain the life of anemone. or else when it die, it will kill the rest of your life forms better to have a fish only rocks in your tanks hope u get a successful beautiful tank
nkh
surface skimmer will help in clearing up the water surface thus helping light to better penertrate thru the water if u planning to keep some coral. If not keeping coral, still advisable to get one . U will definitly like the clean water surface. Surface skimmer can be attached to the inlet of ur HOB filter. I m doing tht oso. SRC Member Maxstar81 Posted February 11, 2006 SRC Member Share Posted February 11, 2006 Bro, can explain wat stuff U put into the refug !? Looks like rojak inside. All the best for your new set up & i suggest keeping off anemones cos they are time bombs & star eating shrimps as they will cause the bio load to go sky high for your small sys. Keep some greens & colourful fish to cheer up the atmosphere in the office. Some bi colour blennies or gobies should do well in this small tank. Quite hardy too. Hope my ideas helps ! Keep the pics coming !!!
SRC Member dkk08 Posted February 11, 2006 Author SRC Member Share Posted February 11, 2006 Hehe bro kev... the refugium is indeed rojak coz there's a bag of denitrator, a bag of rowas + sulphar beads and some ulva+Chaeto... Hmmm my tanks is kinda small so maybe I might have to DIY the surface skimmer... SRC Member dkk08 Posted February 11, 2006 Author SRC Member Share Posted February 11, 2006 Oh ya regarding the anemone... I know its a time bomb (have been there and done that, tank crashed) anyway Clownfish do not always need anemone to host rite Quote “Frogs have it easy, they can eat what bugs them” "If you have no critics you'll likely have no success." - Malcolm X Glory Glory Man Utd! SRC Member Qxnviolet Posted February 12, 2006 SRC Member Share Posted February 12, 2006 icic, anyway, anemones or LPS is not necessary for a clown's well being....they do very well without them too.... SRC Member cdckjn Posted February 12, 2006 SRC Member Share Posted February 12, 2006 I jsut started a 1.5ft tank in office too. Cycling now. Will start thread soon. I will personally stay away from anemone because of twice unsuccessful attempts with them. My tank will be with mushrooms, yumas and fishes (only 2 clownfishes). cleaner shrimps and hermit crabs.
