SRC Member juscool Posted August 29, 2006 SRC Member Share Posted August 29, 2006 Hi, For reefers, how do we rear hermit crabs, once they outgrow their shells , d we need to plant replacements in the tank? Or do their shell grow with them like the turban snails? Otherwise, I have to start looking for one..sheck out the link below.. http://www.petdiscounters.com/product.php?...2&cat=272&page=

SRC Member juscool Posted August 30, 2006 Author SRC Member Share Posted August 30, 2006 The blue hermit died just died today. Its been less than 2 weeks. Water parameter has been okay. I just noticed that it was not active for the last 2 days and was wondering if it was trying to find a new shell. Today I found it out of the shell and dead on the sand, I wonder if it got terrorised in its sleep by something...
nuj244
are you sure it has not molted. My blue molted recently and you can see the skeleton but when I check the shell, the hermit is still there. This happened to my red leg hermit and cleaner shrimp. What I observed is that when the hermit/shrimp stay in one place and no activity, it is in the process of molting. SRC Member glim18 Posted March 14, 2007 SRC Member Share Posted March 14, 2007 I had a red-legged hermit and it moulted about 4-5 times without changing shell. It usually stays in one place for a 2-3 days when it's moulting. The actual changeover from old to new skeleton for the hermit happened overnight, so I've never been able to see the actual event.
