External Overflow

External over flow, you mean a box type which hangs on your tank? If so you do not need to drill a hole. I made a couple and it works fine.

Exacaly. Save me the trouble to explain :D:P .

Any way to start the siphon in the tube i drilled a hole on top and attached a small air tube tap. To start the siphon i open the tap, using an air tube i suck out the air from the siphon tube then close the tap. Now the siphon tube is ready for action.

The siphoning method that you utilise is manual. Any suggestion if there is a power outage, how to get the water flowing again without human intrevention....maybe with the usage of a venturi powerhead?

wsiong,

An airline tubing to a venturi powerhead is a common solution to trapped air in siphon tubes. Many have used it without problems as long as the ventur doesn't become clogged.

Even if the return pump fails or shall I say black out, the siphon will not break.

When power is back on, the water in the tank will rise and start the siphoning again because of the above pic. where I wrote " there will always be water there.

Unless you lift the whole tube out of the water for maintenance then you have to suck out the air from the air hose again.

It will work if u used a overflow box and that is what Ian is using (of course u cannot and do not need to drill a hole in your overflow pipe). Even when the pump failed, the overflow will stop when the water level on both side of the overflow pipe is at the same level. But u have to be sure that your sump can take that amt of water (ie. your sump won't flood even till the overflow pipe level up on both side).

chanbi,

Your right, the air hose tap is just there so it would be easier for me to start the siphon for the first time. After that thins will work "Automatically".

And I must stress :o:D:rolleyes:
