Leoparda? Or another species of canthigaster?

it's the rarer species Canthigaster tyleri.

C. leoparada is a pacific species. in the indian ocean (except xmas island), no leoparda is found but this very similar one replaces leoparda. and it's C. tyleri

can be found from maldives and mauritius shipments.

Thanks for the ID. Beautiful toby, would love to keep it if it ever appears here! The piece shown came from a maldive shipment in a Japan LFS.

But it is too rare. So many maldives shipment but never ever saw one!

Maybe one day it'll pop up as a huge surprise at one of the LFS.

i dnt believe it's rare.

just maybe not targeted for collection since it's a toby. but maybe uncommon in the wild also. or deepwater or watever reason

Tyleri is shallow water. Most probably it is uncommon in the wild and also divers in maldives do not target collect toby as they usually catch the more popular like dracula goby, regal angels, sunset anthias, mitratus butterfly etc.

the holy grail of grouper: Spanish flag. This fish costs S$3200, v reasonable price.

i really dunno what the hype with this fish is all about.

it's not even that nice or special and its so ex.

polleni grouper is so much nicer/ and cost almost nothing compared to this!

Gonioplectrus hispanus (spanish flag) comes from extreme depth (300 to 400 ft) and sighting and catching a small one is v v rare.

Polleni grouper is deep but is only about 100ft deep and is no where as rare or as deep as spanish flag.

Comparing a polleni grouper to a spanish flag is like comparing a magnifica firefish to a helfrichi.

Gorgeous aya and modestus.

the prognathodes butterflies are very easy and hardy provided they are collected well! PERFECT aquarium species.
