first ever liopropoma sp raised from eggs in captivity.

it's unclear wether or not it is L. carmabi or L. rubre as multiple pairs of each are kept together and eggs are harvested together.

but this is a big story for aquaculture and its the first time.

here's hoping it's L. carmabi.

after 15 years of trying, todd garner managed to get one to settle.

The tinker's butterflyfish belongs in the roaps subgenus which includes declivis, mitratus, burgess and flavocoronatus.

All are deepwater and fairly reef safe. I would say like flame Angels.

I have a declivis and a mitratus. No problems for me.

They don't come in small size do they? Recent shipments all arrived quite big

yes tinker's butterflyfish never come in at sizes below 3-4 inches here.

very small ones (1-2) inches are exeedingly rare in the hobby.

the larger 4-5 inches ones are very commonly thrown to us as "rejects"

cirrhilabrus rubriventralis is not rare.

Looks as if some yellow paint splashed onto an orchid dottyback.

it's an aberration for this diadema dottyback.

there's so much purple that you wouldn't have guess it was originally this fish right!

haha

another dubious "tinker x declivis" from christmas island.

IMO it is not a hybrid.

firstly, tinkers are not found in indian ocean.

secondly, it looks just like a regular normal darker variant for the declivis butterflyfish.

just a darker variant of declivis.

it's selling at very high price of $600 USD too.

i would much rather have bought the 2 inch tinker which was sold at only 500.

I can see a bit of black rim, but too little to say it's a hybrid. Much rather they label it as aberrant declives.

Now i doubt the previous one is a hybrid also.

these deepwater fishes are caught at incredulous depths!!!!

600ft is ridiculous!

Yup v deep! They were mostly caught by submersibles and carefully decompressed to bring up alive for public display! Amazing collection skills.

I'm always fascinated with deepwater fishes.

And i'm so excited i'll be getting the super rare and deepwater (in excess of 300 ft) protonogrammus martinicensis also found in carribbean.

$750 for an anthias is tooo much and no one will buy.

tomorrow can go down and admire it. it's a very nice size.
