yup. from what i read need to change every 6-8 months. Light intensity from e tubes will decrease and there might be a spectrum shift.

btw do you need to feed the clam?

Minimally you should change it at least once a year...

Thanks.

I guess 1/2 year should need to change, cos i can visually see that 1/2 year tube is a bit yellow light liao.

I did not feed the clam. It will shift itself to its preferred position.

Hi,

Yes. They're doing well despite their small size.

Every night and morning have to search high and low to ensure their safety.

Interesting creatures. And luckily my tank now is all quite peaceful mate so not much issue.

I last time got one dottyback fish which eaten my carmel shrimp (>1 day) and hermit (>1 day)and stress my 2 fire goby to death (>1 day). Finally managed to get rid of it.

Thanks.

Update : 30 Aug 2010

Got a wavemaker and some more corals....

Hammer and Yellow Colony Polyp Corals.

Hammer is definitely a favourite for sexy shrimps.

Good also, like that easier to keep track on their pressence.

Updated pictures as below.

One question : Do we swtich wavemaker on 24/7? Or off at night?

Usually, wave makers are kept on 24/7. Waves in the ocean don't stop at night, right? :P Of course, you can still set them on timers to save some electricity. I prefer to look at it in a different perspective: in the event my main pump fails at night, I still have my wave makers to create movement in the water and generating gas exchange (oxygen), so that I don't wake up to a bunch of dead fishes.

hi bro,

i also own a JBJ nano tank and now in the cyling stage.

i still new in this hobby, would like to learn more from you...thns

- how is your fitration system, what media u are using?

- do u use a skimmer?

- any special reason that u need 2 pumps in your tank? 1 pump only in my system.

- regard to the chiller, u on it 24 hrs? can we just on it during the day time and off it at nite time..?

Thanks for your advices.

Hi,

I strongly suggest Chemi-pure. I had switch my water-change from weekly to every 2 weekly after start using.

The rest of media were normal charcoal and filter wool.

I did not use any skimmer. Cos initialy doing weekly water change. That should be enough i think.

1 pump is for the internal sump. the other one is to pump water to chiller.

For me, i on my chiller 24hrs. But i do know some people on them only on day time and some adjust the setting higher during night time.

1 thing to note is that cyling is very important and add fishes slowly.

I think my tank limit is only 5 fishes for now....cos new fish add and die always.

so in the end concentrate more on coral and decor.

Enjoy your reefing experience.

Jan 2011 Update.

Finally got approval and luck to get a FOC tank.

Managed to link the new tank to my current tank.

Shared a common chiller.

Wait for tank to cycle.

Got lot of FOC live rock from Bro Haimi.

Got cheato from bro Ah Lee.

"Copy" other SRC bro design for SH tank.

Finally manage to find Blue/White PL light from Rainbow....

And.....Finally added my new livestock to the tank.

Yes....Seahorse tank.

Did not really suceed when add seahorse to my previous tank. They are just too slow to fight for food.

And the photos.
