Does anyone out there who had mod their lighting on the JBJ 24G tank? Is it true that coral require both white and blue lighting? please advise. thanks

Yes. I believe Raydiative is using a 'modded' LED hood done by Sherman.

Coral can survive on 10k white lighting which is best for their growth but it will look a bit "flat"

Having blue actinic light brings out the colours.

Currently my tank got 2 white tube n 2 blue tube. As for the two blue led it seem very dim. Therefore if we would to mod it r we still able to switch on the two white lighting tube? Am I right to say that coral require both white n blue lighting tube?

Roger

I believe you bought Qiang's tank. His lighting should be stock light ==> PL lights.

Yes they are dim especially if the tube is old tube. These are not LED lights.(unless Qiang has added them)

Now, when you mod it, you will be removing the PL light fixture in the hood and add in the new LED light fixture.

With the new modded LED lightset, you can control white and blue LED separately.

Yes you will need both white and blue lighting.

Hahaha no wonder look so familiar. Yup Roger, you can view my tank thread to get an idea of the led mod on the jbj canopy. Should be within the last 10 to 15 pages. Luckily there's not so much tcss in my thread haha.

You mean the PL lights itself or the LED? PL tubes can be replaced, as for LED, I think can send back to JBJ agent to fix.

Sherman's DIY LED will be more cost effective.

How cost effective it is?

Can't wait to know coz I know The advantages of LED n it's the up n coming thing right now.

Less heat, more lasting, less electric consumption etc...

I think it is cost effective when you look at long term savings in both electricity consumption (including savings from less heat, less chiller time) and lifespan of the light as compared to T5 or MH. Of course, the down side is that high powered LED for reefing is still higher than the traditional options, but the way I look at it is that you are paying upfront for more savings in the future.

actually the whole light system is not working properly.

firstly the switch does not work at all - i can only switch on & off from wall socket. when it is switched on, the switch at top of hood does not work - it is white light even at neutral position.
