Fading liverocks colouration

Guys, i set up my tank on Sunday and just notice a change in colouration of the liverocks and in particularly the fading colouration of the coraline algae to light/pale purple with a lil tinge of white. while on the other hand some rocks produce a relative red hue that wasn't as obvious when i first gotten it. I know that this is the acclimatization period, but i'm just worried something went wrong within the tank. i've read that it could be due to the lack of calcium but is this the case i should be taking it in especially so when the tank just started ?

Is your tank under cycling?

Don't worry about the purple coraline, it'll grow back after your tank matures with proper water condition.

If you're able to brush off the red ones with a soft brush, it's red slime. You can leave your lights off to discourage its growth. Siphon it out during your WC.

Sounds normal during cycling...

Jameshong, Morpheous: yayy its still cycling thats why quite concern because i didnt come across this while reading up before setting up.

turnicate: thats a relief! the red slime ya referring is the Cyanobacteria ? brownish coloured algae ? its more like the rocks starting to brighten up in reddish purple colouration as compared to the ones that are fading. will try to get a pic if possible. what should i be looking out for other than algae to see if the liverocks are acclimatizing ?

pardon me for my endless questions. i realised there are more stuff i need to enquire and be sure of other than the pieces of readings i've done.

ty to get a toothbrush to 'brush' the red hue lightly...if it comes off, its is cyano..if doesn't, its coraline

during cycling, usually the 1st algae to appear will be brown diatoms, usually last for around 2 wks-1 mth, followed with green algae, after tat period, it should be ok oreadi...dun worry bout coraline...once ur parameters are stable, and mature, it will be back...my 2 cents

Quotes. http://saltaquarium.about.com/od/aboutcorallinealgae/ss/coralline.htm

Encrusting Coralline Algae is what gives many saltwater aquariums their color and a good covering is the goal of most marine aquarists. Coralline Algae exists in a variety of different colors (green, pink, white, purple, red).

Unlike Brown, Green Hair and Red Slime Algae, which (frequently) grow in your tank whether you like it or not, Coralline Algae must be physically brought into your tank in order for it to reproduce and populate the various surfaces. Coralline Algae can be introduced to your tank by installing:

•Coralline covered Live Rock

•Coralline scrapings from another tank

•Commercial Coralline Algae starter packages

The more types of Coralline (green, pink, white, purple, red) that you add to your tank, the more you will see growing on your Live Rock, substrate and aquarium walls. Once you have some Coralline Algae in your tank, how do you get it to reproduce and spread throughout your tank? One simple method is to turn off all tank filters and skimmers, leaving any powerheads running. With a single edged razor blade, scrape the existing Coralline off the front and side tank walls. The water current generated by the powerhead will spread the Coralline scrapings throughout the tank where they will continue to grow. After an hour or so, turn the skimmers and filters back on.

--The above methods is for mature tank and cycled.

IMO.

Many conditions to meet the speedy growth of such.

lighting

temperature

water parameter

at least a fully entrusted coraline rock for speed up when all conditions are met.

thanks raymus !! the whitening and fading kinda stop with some colours coming back. diatoms and greenish hair algae starting to spread around the rocks and sandbed and tank walls. i should just leave it as it is until it 'self-destruct' when the cycling period ends ? am i right ?
