  2. We added turbo snails & now have the cutie nassarius snails (bought frm fellow reefer Maxima) 2 counter the same problems. It helps a lot in our case. Just that when the turbos eat up the brown algae, they also poop a lot ... so its a viscious cycle! I think adding some form of macro algae in the sump also helps (we just put in the sea lettuce), or I could B wrong ... mayB its a combination of all that. Plus I stopped feeding them mysis/brine shrimps (only flakes & pellets 4 now) & also cut down photo-period. Remember 2 keep up yr water changes too. Some experts may have better solutions/suggestions. This is what works 4 hubby & me ... so far. Hope that helps . P.S : Ours is a 2ft too.
  3. R skunk shrimps also cleaner shrimps? CF got a lot - how much?
  4. Look similar leh. I get confuzzed telling them apart ... too many varieties of clownfishes .
  5. Ahh ... victory at last! So what happens 2 the naughty damsel now?
  6. R they considered pests or good 2 keep? R they the type of anemone that will wander around the PH & turn "suicidal"? If they R stuck on the rock, can we pry them off (use what?) & not hurt them in the process?
  7. Hi giantbicycle How's yr clowns? R they much better?? Settled down yet ...

  9. R the true percs at CF on sale? If they R how much? Seems like a lot on the top containers have a "NOT FOR SALE tag" ... never bothered 2 ask them. Real beauties ... but dun have chance 2 buy, too bad.
  10. Coral F**m have lotsa lotsa mushrooms & buttons, go there & take a look (but need own transport - public transport not very convenient). Pretty reasonable & they even offer discounts. They have LS too - fishes (clowns/damsels/tangs etc.), turbo snails, camel shrimps, nudibranch, LR (went there last Sat & this Mon, dun know this week's new stock tho). Good Luck!
  11. Is it good 2 have lotsa lotsa pods in the sump/refugium? If the fishes eat the pods, not good?? More pods ... better 4 the refugium?
  12. Can see what, 2 humans/reflections (1st picture). About hairy legs (??? ), U have 2 ask him lah.
  13. Cool! Does it really work??
  14. Killfire, I can see U & yr partner in the picture (reflection) ... hehe .
  15. Hey killfire Sorry 2 trouble U. If U wanna buy/pick up some more snails, can get 4 me some too , if Maxima has enough 2 spare. 12 snails ... as usual. Thanx, pay U back & take frm U when convenient. Maxima, can the snails B put in the sump? Will they survive there/have enough 2 eat? Thanx.
  16. Aiyoh poor kitty ... We "lost" our cat a few years back. Long story short, he was "kidnapped" during the night & "thrown" away, along with his Pet Taxi (found the Pet Taxi eventually at a nearby rubbish dump, no cat inside ). We even took leave 2 search 4 him in the neighbourhood for 2 straight days (spent evenings roaming the streets too). As we lived in a HDB flat (10th floor), we cannot expect our cat 2 find its way back. He was gone 1 week, nearly gave up hope ... until 1 day was coming home frm work, saw a familiar face at our open-air carpark. He was sitting beside a car ... as if he's waiting 4 us 2 see & come rescue him. We were thrilled 2 get him back . So I guess what I'm trying 2 say is ... dun give up on yr kitty. Keep looking 4 him if U can spare the time/love it dearly. Ask your neighbours, paste pics at yr lift lobby notice board or put listing under "Lost Pets" in the Straits Times Classifieds. As Cleartank mentioned, U can also try contacting SPCA or AVA if they have any news. Last but not least, my cat now has a collar with a tag that carries his name & our address. He's safe with us now, moved with us 2 our new home & still as chubby as ever. He's 13 years old now, ancient in cat years. Anyway, good luck in finding yr cat. Hope it returns 2 U safe & sound .
  17. We find him quite a nice guy. Even tho we were obviously newbies, it was evident he was not 1 of those "typical" LFS owners/staff that tries 2 con newbies 4 their sheer ignorance. Yes he didn't chat us up immediately when we walked in the store but he was attending 2 some customers that were already there when we walked in. Even tho me & my friend were just looking around, he was kind enugh 2 approach us, even tho women R not yr usual "reefer-type". He was very polite & obliging (even giving us some advice on white spots etc). Have heard lots of nice comments bout him & wasn't dissapointed on our 1st visit. MayB like the other reefers say, his stuff is priced a bit higher but then again - U pay 4 quality products, professionalism & good service, with a smile (compared 2 some farm personnel who R perpetually in frowns & scowls ). Just my humble opinion ...
  18. Errmm .. when it comes 2 a life of another living creature I can't help but ask ... its my civic duty as a fellow human being . Besides, if U want hamsters, can readily purchase them frm any local petshop or frm pple who may have baby hamsters 4 adoption or 2 give away. Petshops in Serangoon area (Petm**t there) got lots of hamsters 4 sale, dun know how much tho, should B quite cheap. Digressing a bit, I have a hamster but he's safe with me . I think if U R looking 2 adopt them as pets, there might B willing souls out there. But if pple dun know/wonder what they R needed 4, they might B a bit unwilling, thats all. But then again, U might B lucky & get a response frm someone out there ... Just my humble opinion ...
  19. R they gonna B used as life bait/food 4 any of yr pets??
  20. Hi AT, thanx 4 the info. I've read yr previous post (Nov 02) & noted that my sea spider was the same as yours (not the blue one). Interesting read ... I wasn't asking bout the sea spider at all (only bout the mantis & brittlestars), just mentioned it casually coz I was experiencing a lot of "uninvited" guests in my newbie tank recently, thats all . I wasn't overly concerned either coz I've already squashed it last week . So it wasn't that I didn't want 2 read up in the SRC pages, its just something that happened 2 me B4. Figured that some reefers might wanna keep a look out 4 these hitch-hikers in their own tanks too - just in case. 4 everyone's input. Appreciate it.
  21. They R not? Ermm .... then what R they? OK I think I better do more research on the web 1st B4 I do anything 2 them. Dun want 2 eliminate good "guests" in my tank.
  22. Hehe .. 2 tell U the truth, I dun know if there's such a name as "sea spider" (I called it that 4 easy reference - coz it looked like a spider). I'm sure there's a proper/correct name 4 it.
  23. Aiyah, viscious cycle right . We introduce snails 2 get rid of the algae/diatoms. The snails R so efficient at their jobs, they introduced more poop in the end (more headache!). So not really solving the problem right ... I guess we need 2 solve the problems of over-feeding, lessen the tank light time etc. - 2 solve the diatoms/algae & not expect the snails 2 solve it 4 us. Yah makes sense ... all LS got bioload, eat sure 2 poop (just like us!)
  24. U have 2 B patient when it comes 2 marine keeping ... 1 month is nothing if U consider the fact that U will B in this hobby 4 a lifetime, hopefully. If U start out right, U won't have yr precious fishes dying on U. Basically your tank is just not ready 2 "accept" any life stock yet, so please dun introduce any in the tank coz they will definitely DIE. Even if they don't, they will die a SLOW & AGONISING death ... so please spare them the torture. All newbies go thru the same stage, me included. Excited, go LFS recee ... see fish/corals, "itchy" hands - see, die die must buy. Bring fish home, chuck it in tank just 2 C it die on U. Poor thing right ... Anyway, learn frm our mistakes & spare the marine life. Be patient & U will B rewarded in time ... trust me Good Luck!
