  1. Limpets r like abalones n stick fast 2 the surface of rocks. U frequently see them stuck to the dead coral stones near the seashore or the landings of sailboats and even the sides of the canals leading to the seashore at low tides. With a small bit of effort, using the thin blade of a small screwdriver, u can slowly lift them off the rocks' surface n it won't cost u a dime. In Singapore, they r quite common at the East Coast Park shoreline s well s the other seashore coastal areas of the island.
  2. Today's wavemakers are quite sophisticated and come with different wave modes. The bottom line is a design which pull currents from the bottom of the tank and send them rolling forwards viz. Sun Sun, Resun and Seio models. Hence if you are using the abovementioned types, the water circulation is already giving you some good results. But of course, with the more expensive types like Tunze, Vortech or the Conch, the placement is more a case of ease of removal for cleaning. The latter types offer different types of surge.
  3. Hi, I want Item 21. Please arrange date and transaction time if it's still available. My HP is 98303257. Thks. Finbir.
  4. I had a Rio 10F before. I alternate between it and a Dymax of the same wattage. Unfortunately, its magnet rusted and bloated. So back to Hausmann at Lim Chu Kang to buy a replacement. Cost me a cool $19. Found that the replacement wasn't very fitting as it refused to spin. So sanded it a bit and it worked fine. Used it to pump topped-up water as the Dymax was doing the pumping of water from the sump. Guess what happened when I decided to replace the Dymax? The new replacement for the Rio 10F had corroded! I don't have this happening to my other pumps viz. Big Boy, Eheim, Dymax or Seio. Good luck to ur new impeller.
  5. Get a light meter from Sim Lim Tower. It should let u know whether ur lighting is adequate or observe how ur charges r doing over a period of time. Otherwise, pay the price n trust the recom of the marine outlets.
  6. Have u tested the nitrate level in ur tank? If it's going down then the stuff is working. In any given scenario, there's always a trade-off. I clean my tank every week.
  7. Hi, I keep one of those short-spined sea urchins n it really strip the coral-based rocks to the core but doesn't harm the mushies or the live corals. On the other hand my foxface lo does his part to earn the right to live in my tank. Brushing or pulling off the algae will help them to spread faster (my opinion ). Reefing should be enjoyable, Finbir.
  8. All three work well. Currently folks, I'm one of them, go for refugium stocked with chaetomorphora(a type of noodle-like algae p.s. Anthony Calfour's article in Reef Central Forum)combined with an ATS(algae turf scrubber. At the end of the day, it's elbow grease that keeps the system running. Happy reefing' Finbir.
  9. Seio will be launching a new 'surge pump' with built-in programmed control 2 simulate different types of waves. No more hassle with poking at controls. Check it out on the Net. I'm waiting 4 it to hit the S'pore shore.
  10. U r welcome. Hope u make the right decision on the chiller.
  11. Hi friend, The last price I noted was $400++ for a new one. Have u noticed that chillers r put up 4 sale almost daily? But most guys here r opting for the Mitsubishi with drop-in coil (preferably made from titanium. IMO,the price is really worth the spending for long term. BTW I've shelved my brand new Resun 650 after using it for 5mths, two yrs ago. What's done cannot be undone. Finbir.
  12. Hi there, After such a long lay-off, u have made quite a lengthy overhaul. Why not just let things run for, say, a month b 4 u try more improvement? Normally an algae scrubber does not show much initially but when it does, wow... u'll be amazed! Happy reefing! Finbir
  13. Hi friend, Interested in ur fish. Kindly call me at HP. 98303257 . Can view today . Thks, Finbir.
  14. Let's hve a pic of the coralline algae please.
  15. Next time b 4 adding, plug a washing machine hose to the outflow of skimmer cup and drop the end into a toilet bucket. That way the skimmed stuff can flow without control n will eventually slow down. Then u can revert back to normal. No messy flr to clean up. Works like a charm 4 me when I mischievously doused my 4-ftr with a cup of cooked mussel juice. Must be nuts!! The skimming was tremendous, even after I shut the air valve. God! Luckily I reacted quickly. The whole tank become cloudy n I thought my tank was going to crash. The fishes became zombies. Ugh! The water only cleared after I added Reef Adv Calcium, bit by bit, the next morn. Thank heavens as everything is back to normal.
  16. There r a couple of U-Tube videos on how to do it. Just watch n follow. It's that simple. Enjoy.
  17. Current marine reef or fowlr systems with properly selected pumps can even over supply O2, so there's no cause for worry. In case of a breakdown, such systems can even last more than a day (my personal experience).
  18. Seio wavemakers come with two types of attachment. I'm using the hang-on type that comes with the purchase and have recently modified to magnetic type after my Sun Sun broke down for better mobility.
  19. Haussman Aquarium in Lim Chu Kang. Do note that the magnet of the impeller has a tendency to rust if u stop operating and don't remove to wash in freshwater. That's what happened to my replacement after disuse of three weeks. Gd luck.
  20. Hi, If it's eating pellets then I'm keen. Can come on wkdys to collect, immediately. Thks, Finbir.
  21. It should still b usable. Usually the effectiveness n design of a skimmer is tested before mass production. But don't expect it to rival one which uses a powerhead.
  22. Switch off the pumps then use a foam scraper to brush off the algae. Next wait for about ten minutes then return to siphon off the debris. This is part of reef husbandry and the organisms u keep will thank u for it.
  23. It isn't wise to modify the way u did but it's too late. Normally, such skimmers need a longer reacting column n u can use a ceramic airstone to improve bubbling but of course the airpump needs to be stronger. The airstone can be re-used simply by heating over a stove to get it all white again.
  24. Hi, Most of the shops r either having them on the shelves or installed over the tanks. Just ask the owners.
  25. Iwarna has plenty two weeks ago. Happy travelling, Finbir.
