  1. Now that's an idea AquaZinyaw. I've not seen such a thing before but it seems to be a very possible solution.
  2. Vtec, That's exactly what alot of reefers have been telling me. Isnt there a way to still enclose it? Perhaps creating sufficient ventilation with the use of fans etc?
  3. I'm planning to trash my 3ft internal overflow tank for something smaller and more compact. Here are the 2 designs I've come up with after looking at the displays at Aquarama. This is a 1.5ft cube design. This a 2ft cube design. I know that it's nothing Special. You could probably find similar ones in a store somewhere but quite frankly, i've not come across any. If anyone can hook me up on any locations, that would be helpful. Otherwise, I've got to get it custom made. Either way, I'm a little clueless on how the sump should look like. The major arguement being is if the Chiller should be inside the cabinet or outside. If it is inside, the space of the sump would be greatly compromised and then there is the heat issue. If it is outside, you maximise the sump space, creating greater possibilites of equipment insertion but the chiller on the outside, with the pipes and tubes, becomes an eyesore not to mention the noise. From my amature knowledge of Sumps, this is what I have, In this Design, the chiller will be situated outside the tank. Yes, I know I said that it'd be an eyesore but this is where I need help. How can I make the sump such that the Chiller can also fit in there? Expert Reefers, please help.

  5. Awesome Tank. Loving all the fancy corals in there.
  6. Thanks AhSeng. My tank is going to be mainly of Invertebrates. Update soon with livestock.
  7. what is 'kanna' and how is it up-side-down?
  8. I did a major Rescape to the tank today.
  9. hey all how much do these guys go for? No need to mention shop names. just a price range will do.
  10. from my limited experience, some turbo snails, a few hermits and a 4 monthly change of Anti-Phos helps keep the algae away.
  11. time to let an old thread see the light of day again. Hello everyone. A few questions about the Coral Banded Shrimp or Banded Boxer Shrimp. 1. I've read about them being very territorial. Is is true that they can only be kept as an individual or only as a m/f pair? 2. For those who have had experience keeping these pretty shrimp, are they really very aggressive towards other shrimps and smaller inverts like crabs and hermits? 3. Is there any special requirements food wise for these pretty guys? 4. Would they be attacked by clownfish or even Watchman Gobies? Those of you who have these awesome inverts or have had them before, please help answer my questions. I know I can get my answers off the net but I would really appreciate answers from reefers with the experience.
  12. yes they are.. you wouldnt believe the amount of money I paid for the initial 3 pieces.
  13. It's great that you've set it free.
  14. Hello everyone. I'm looking for Hermit Crabs that are smaller than the size of a Ping-Pong ball. Any kind is fine. Please do let me know if you have any for sale/adoption.
  15. I must agree with alot of the people here, your tank set up along with the carpentry is very neat and compact. It's lovely.
  16. Ambystoma82, That white thead thing is actually the white tape that was there to secure the piping. The hermits had a go at it.
  17. Thanks for the comments everyone... I made the mistake of purchasing 3 large pieces of Liverock to start with rather than many smaller ones. It was only after adding all those smaller pieces of rock did the tank become stable. Right now not much intention on adding anything new. I'm planning on getting more small hermit crabs though. Been having a hard time finding them. If anyone has any suggestions for the hermits, do let me know. I've got a small wave maker at the back that's keeping away the dead spots but I need another to create some surface flow. soon soon.
  18. This is what my tank looked like in September last year. I had just started and it wasn't much. Over the months that followed, many additions were made and many lives were lost. I had even come to the point where I wanted to quit. Thankfully it hasn't come to that and my tank looks like this now. I don't have that many inhabitants but the survivors here are doing great. Livestock 3 Hermits 1 Fire Clown 1 Clarki Clown 1 large anemone 1 small anemone 2 Watchman Gobies 5 Featherduster worms ( and loads of tiny ones all over the place. Possibly breeding? ) Corals.. I've got 1 bubble coral > it's kinda pinkish 1 hammer coral 3 Hairy Green Mushrooms (gotten from Sisreefer) some cool star polyps. I see them getting longer and longer every month. an assortment of random mushrooms 1 piece of moonrock (I honestly don't know what it is called)
  19. Wow! The green on that one is amazing. Your tank looks awesome. I'm glad that I finally got to see it with my own eyes. Never have I seen coraling grow like that. Thanks for the Hairy Shrooms. They seem to be doing great in my tank.
  20. my 3 spot damsel died when the scallop i had died and polluted the water. so sad... it was king in my tank. Listen to the pros.. damsels will take over your tank. size does not matter!
  21. I drip in about 7ml of JBL coral Fluid into my 3ft tank every other day every fortnight, i add in 10ml of my own mix of ground salmon meat, prawn meat, a little garlic and some multi Vitamins. So far so good. my Star Polyps, feather duster worms and bubble coral seem to be enjoying the treatment.
  22. wow that's quite cool. I've caught some of these before with my little cousins as we wade along the shallow bits. There are places where you can actually catch very tiny cuttlefish too.
  23. man these things are so frikkin coool!
