  2. Bro, you might want to upgrade your chiller pump or run your ehiem 1262 through your 1/3hp arctica chiller as water temp is critical component for your live stocks. Cheers, James
  3. Nice tank of healthy fishes....... Lens is dirty or tank water is cloudy? If its the tank water, a bag of activated carbon will help. Cheers, James
  4. Was driving half way and something trigger my thoughts to save the reef,Below is my idea. Maybe it has already been done by someone before. Every last Sunday of the month, between 9am-11am reefers gather at a strategic location with a healthy frag and a participation fees of $10, we can alternate between months for zoas or sps. These two species are more common for cultivation. The location will have a frag tank for every reefers to place their frag. A simple breakfast with coffee and tea will be served (paid from the participating fees). At exactly 11am sharp, the organiser will start the balloting process. The reefer with the lowest number will get to choose a frag from the frag tank first to bring home, this will goes on until the last number is called. Main Objective is to get to know one another to share experiences, resources and ideas.....etc Second objective is to promote cultivation and propagation of corals so as to save the reef. Would like to hear your views on this..... Cheers, James http://www.sgreefclub.com/forum/topic/105744-the-journey-to-the-valley-of-the-reef-by-james/'>

  17. Bro, I want the melanurus wrasse. Will take some live rocks too if selling cheap. Cheers, James http://www.sgreefclub.com/forum/topic/105744-the-journey-to-the-valley-of-the-reef-by-james/'>
  18. Indonesia cultured sps mostly 3 colonies for $100. If wild colonies $50-$70 per colony. Australia sps wild colonies range from $120 per colony to $600 for large ssc colony which I personally think the recent price hike on ssc is ridiculous. A wild colony size easily can have 10-20 frags. So you do your maths and see if its worth or not. In my principle, I dont mind paying extra 20-30% more for frags that are stable n well encrusted on plugs. 19. 1) Do not underestimate the strength(par) of your led light set, do not place led light set too low as it can burn your corals. Place high for spread and always go slow with the percentage. 2) do not add too many livestock at one go. Most of the time we human like to " play with fire" i add 2 fish today no problem, tomorrow add another 2 and so on for a week or 2. when the problem comes they all go at one go. 3) impatient in cycling process and introduce livestock too early in the process when water parameter is still unstable 4)In Balance In Parameters Is A Big No No..Flux In Kh,SG Will cause harm to SPS And Lps so keep these two stable and the others too 5) adding new fish and corals without doing research of it's behaviour and requirements. 6) cooking live rocks by putting them in the sun. This not only add extra nutrient to the rocks due to die offs inside the rock and also result in longer start up period. "Cooking" is not kill the rocks. Cooking is soaking rocks in hyper salinity or slightly higher than usual temperature to remove unwanted pests therefore keeping the entire integrity of the live rock intact 7) Not using the correct TDS water and inappropriate salt mix for more sensitive livestocks 8) Not inspecting / quarantining livestock before adding to main tank, pest introduction is a disaster that will take over the tank. 9) Don't dose any chemical that you seldom or do not measure. A lesson I am currently combating now (high calcium & magesnium) Cheers, James
  20. There will be reefers willing to give you free when you ask for it. Cheers, James
  21. You can try a convict tang. Its cheap and can help you address new tank syndrome algae problem. If possible just grow some macroalgaes in your sump n feed it when you harvest. Cheers, James
