  1. Spot feeding gonio with Reef Roids Bugatti Chalice (Not so) Pink Stylo Bali Slimer Blue Dragon Another recent addition - Sunset Millie Halloween Crab hanging around the candy cane Another new addition - Trachyphyllia Valida. The new growth continues to have bright coloration SSC
  2. Finally went ahead to change the Alkatronic pump tubes after 2.5yrs of use. The original tubes are running fine but decided to do some preventive maintenance just in case. Hate to have a situation of a cracked tube and get salt water or reagent leaking all over the place. As many know, I avoid to put my hands in the water. Main reason is sensitive skin and the other is to avoid getting oils into the water. Did a small mod to the acrylic cover to help slow eating scolymia finish their meal. Some coral pics. Taken with DD Corals Lens (Gen2) New addition to the torch garden Existing torch corals. (iphone + DD lens) Bugatti Chalice Lobo coral Scolymia & Cynarina Goniopora
  3. Still around. Just didn't get to installing it back on.
  4. Hope your tank is fully cycled before the fish was added. 1degC fluctuation is the normal setting when using chiller. So relating to the 1degC fluctuation question, its OK. However, I noticed you mentioned your tank temperature is 34.5DegC? That seems quite warm. Most run the tanks cooler around 27-28DegC.
  5. Its not an issue. Glass is actually very very strong. But if still worried, as mentioned, use a hand saw to trim the rock such that it becomes a flat surface instead of pointed tip. That's what i did with mine. Also recommended on BRSTV.
  6. Its a bad idea to put egg crates - detritus build up. Note that glass is generally quite strong. Its unlikely for a falling rock in a filled tank to drop & break the glass bottom. And if one is worried about sharp edges of rocks during the initial setup, just saw off the bottom pointy bits to make it flat.
  7. Quarterly maintenance of light fixture. Particularly important in a household with cats & dogs. And also a quick wipe down with a damp cloth to get rid of salt spray on the lenses. 2 weeks of hair algae growth in the refugium box The corals have been growing taller & the wavemakers are now blowing at the stems directly causing tissue damage on the side facing the wavemaker. Had to raise the wavemker closer to the water surface to 'clear' the corals. For the Vortech wavemakers, I make it a point to secure the cables with a hook so the wet side does not drop when the dry side is removed (eg for cleaning). The larger wavemaker is secured with an additional wire cable just in case. Watched a ReefDudes video recently where a guest reefer claimed tank ORP is improved with the lid removed. This seems like some anecdotal findings but i'm keep to explore this or whether the tank does better. Printed some clips to lift the lid up to allow more air exchange where the bubbles forms. Some corals pics : Growing even more beyond the surface. Some candy cane frags for sale. Red Stag
  8. Been busy clearing some overgrown corals the past 2 weeks. Want to make space for new corals. Must support the LFS. Some simple iphone pics. Starting a gonio garden. Closeup of the gonio from Madpetz. Has blue tips. Facing some difficulties in 2 areas : 1) I leave the electrical cabinet door open to keep the area cool. But one of my cats recently found it a nice warm place to sleep. So i had to put up a grill. 2) Getting some bald patches on the stylo colony Bcos the torch tentacles are getting longer & stinging the stylo. Still figuring out what to do about it. Probably need to move the stylo away
  9. How long has the peppermint shrimp been in there? Must be enjoying the buffet. Any kind of feedback control is good. Can be Apex or any brand or or even DIY Reef Pi. The other useful equipment is the Alkatronic which serves as a close loop feedback on the calcium reactor/KH consumption performance.
  10. Impressive!! Looking forward to more updates
  11. The CO2 tubing split at the check valve fitting...after 2yrs +. According to Apex chart, it probably happened at 3pm. I was notified via phone app at 3.07pm. And I managed to get it fixed by 5pm after meetings were done. That's one nice thing about having an aquarium controller, be it Apex or any other brand. Other things done to the tank : Added extension ring for the chalice Added an acrylic cover to block light entering the overflow - an effort to prevent aiptasia from growing in the overflow.
  12. Last week's update seem to have gone missing. Hence a re-post. Regarding Mobius - Feed mode. Its possible to add a feed mode button by clicking the "+" icon. Then program the behavior of the pumps in feed mode. Eg. set to 10% speed
  13. How long has your tank been running? The skimmer won't have much skimmate if bio load is very low (i.e. little organic waste or when the tank is new/cycling) A Clarisea is a replacement for filter sock/wool - a 1st stage of mechanical filtration. Depending on how you set yours up, a roll should last quite a while. For my 5ft, it lasts about 1.5 to 2 months. Super convenient. The skimmer is to remove organic waste (which is not picked up by the clarisea/wool/filter sock). It also provides a lot of needed oxygen for the tank since its churning the water quite a bit.
  14. As everyone mentioned, seriously consider a chiller to have improved chances of success in this hobby. I've had a tank without chiller/fan before reaching 32degC. Basically, you are only able to keep GSP & some common less sensitive zoanthid. Forget about LPS & SPS as they will 100% die. Most other soft corals like mushroom & xenia won't survive as well.
  15. Cleaned up the corner overflow box in the display tank over the weekend. OMG - its full of vermatid snails (some as long as 4" long), loads of fat gigantic aiptasia(s) & at least 1cm of accumulated sand. In the process of cleaning it, I found a long lost yellow watchman goby. Think it went missing 2+ years ago just one week after getting it from coral farm (still tiny) Its about 4" now with nice blue coloration. Must have enjoyed the good food in the overflow. Netted it out. Hope it's happier in the display tank. . The skimmer drainage tube to the external bucket got clogged & the skimmer overflowed. Probably went on for a couple of days before it was noticed. Some coral pics : Micromussa from fellow reefer bought in Jan 2017. Probably grew a few tiny heads in 3.5yrs Green tip pink seriatopora
  16. Some recent 3D prints for fellow reefers : AquaUV sterilizer holders MP40 anemone guard Gigantic frag plug extension
  17. I bought a red RBTA from you back then. Below is from the same 'lineage'. $30. But i'm located at Bt Batok. Let me know if you are still keen. Not the orange variant but the red one
  18. Those should be Armor of God zoanthid (pic below without filter)
  19. I'm not 100% sure as it was passed to me by a fellow reefer. Possibly its a Diabolic Pacman
  20. Ha..yes. Thanks to SRC Stay Home, Stay Safe Reef At Home contest
  21. Got some nice Zoa from Suprem5 yesterday. 1st visit to the shop. Lots of nice torches there too. Some tops down pics taken with iPhone & DD Coral Lens Fragged some UFO chalice recently. Recovering well.
  22. Wow!! Many gems and doing well. Think I saw your tank before it was stocked up.
  23. I have plenty of a certain types that is seen only on areas with green algae (eg. dirty glass & rocks) & hide during the day time. But they don't harm corals at all so I leave them alone. Yeah. Need to be 100% cautious. On the topic of dips, I've tried Bayer insecticide - it works well to remove pests from corals but find that invertebrates don't do well for several months following the use of it. Possibly related to the neuro toxin in the formula? Hence I now stick to safer options (for reef animals & myself) like TLF Revive.
