Just to share : Pink short polyp gonio. From GO. Plate coral. Green body. Purple tentacles with blue tip. Also from GO. They do bring these in regularly. Seen them in a couple of shipments. Price wise...GO prices. i.e. Not so cheap.

Nicely done!! I assume you used acrylic solvent (eg. Methylene Chroloride) instead of Superglue (cyanoacrylate) to glue the parts together? Acrylic solvent bonds 'clear' & is stronger than super glue. The vendor Darma (@ Ubi) should be able to cut >5mm strips to size. And to emphasize.... very nice DIY & money well spent

I have the Vertex nylon mesh too. Same here. They clog in about a day. I think its because the overall surface area is small compared to the felt sock.

Do monitor for rust. There are several grades of stainless steel. The common one is grade 304 which may corrode after a short period of time. The one for marine application is grade 316.

It's true that silicon will not adhere to acrylic. For acrylic, it needs solvent based adhesive to melt & bond/fuse the pieces together. Glass uses silicon adhesive. Hence there is no way to join glass + acrylic securely. Your best bet is to get a glass panel. It'll be quite cheap. Atlantic Glass at serangoon can cut one for you on the spot. Yeah. Going to LFS just to buy brine shrimps is quite troublesome indeed. Just to share, i reduce my trips to LFS by : 1) Buying more bags each time (eg 2 bags) 2) Put them into 2 containers (smaller population per container. I use Chinese new year pineapple tart plastic bottle 4) Tilt the container such that one of the edges is at the lowest point - no stagnant point when air is bubbled at the lowest point 3) Feed with Phytoplakton. Can feed with Reef Nutrition Phyto Feast. (something i learned from reefer PCW recently...thanks). 4) Rinse them & change water every 3 days

For the right colors, to get the settings right out of the camera - set your custom white balance. Play around the range from 8000 - 160000. This will depend on the color temperature of your tank lights. Else, shoot in RAW format & edit the color balance on your PC. Its actually quite important to purchase the right model for your tank. Some cheap algae scrapers have weak magnets => not enough 'strength' to scrub the glass. Don't waste time with cheap brands. I had one from Boyu....really can't clean a thing on 10mm glass. That is, its important to buy one that is rated for the correct glass thickness. Some nano ones are designed for thinner glass & may not be good enough for say 10 or 12mm glass. Popular & more affordable brands are MagFloat (They are the 1st ones to design one that floats. Can purchase an add-on to attach a blade) & Flipper (comes with a blade) I believe the 'best' brand is AlgaeFree. Its also crazy expensive but apparently sells well because it uses a huge piece of magnet & hence have very strong cleaning power. http://www.algaefree.com/site/floating.html I'm using the MagFloat (Large) ~ $30+ on 10mm glass. It does an OK job.

Looks great! Are you using the custom white setting? Play around with it till you get the right 'color'. Mine is another camera model but recall using the range between 7000 to 12000k.

They seem to eat anything - hikari mysis shrimp, bits of market prawn, bait fish (small white fish about 1/2cm to 1cm found at ntuc or market) , sushi roe Once they get a good grip of the food, it's ok to turn the pump back on. When lights are out, they may have short tentacles sticking out - a sign they are looking for food. BTW, my candy canes will always take in food when i feed them (even if they are fed daily without the tentacles sticking out).

My understanding is that 30min should not be a problem at all. If you are paranoid & have the time a cheap option is to purchase a battery operated air pump from C328. I've also read about people manually scooping water & pouring it back occasionally to create some flow.

The Tian Ya graduated filters are available at most camera stores at Funan/Sim Lim. Prices range from $7.50 - $15 depending on where you go. Personally I like the graduated ones (clear to dark tint) so you can 'adjust' the amount of compensation depending on the color of the tank. 2 weeks & 12 days is indeed quite long without intervention....all the best. For my skimmer & long trips, i intend to hook up a Tom's aqua lifter ($15+ at Petmart) to the skimmer collection cup, then hook it to a digital timer to turn on occasionally to suck the skimmate into a separate waste container.

If the stain is already in the tank, i'd just use a blade to scrape off as much as possible. Use cleaning fluids (eg turpentine) only when its a new/empty tank.

For silicone stain, any petroleum based fluid will work - kerosene, diesel, turpentine.

I had blinking lights on my 1 month old rw jebao (used only for mixing salt water) controller as well. Tried a different controller/power supply & it was the same. Oddly, i just needed to turn the propeller manually and it became OK again. Just sharing....
