  1. Not necessarily true... most fishes can tolerate an S.G. of 1.009 (or even lower) without any ill effects at all for long periods of time. This forms the basis of hyposalinity treatment as a cure for ich... 1.009 for 6 weeks or more. If they die its probably because they have not been acclimated to the low salinity well enough (should drop the S.G. from 1.023 to 1.009 over 2 days). On the other hand, any inverts will probably be killed by the low salinity although this again may not be necessarily true.. I found a crab crawling out of a live rock after 4 weeks at 1.009..
  2. Is it a decorator crab?
  3. All these wrasses are like that... my red coris wrasse also likes to turn small pieces of rocks around with his mouth..
  4. Just wondering - what's the average price of a Queen Angel? Hardly ever see them around the LFSes..
  5. Well, all clownfishes can do very well without anemones... Just that if you want them to breed in your tank, the chances of them doing so would be alot higher if you have an anemone.
  6. Ha... I didn't know marine stingrays are so cheap! I mean, compared to freshwater rays, which easily cost upwards of $100... I never dared ask about the prices of stingrays at LFSes cos i always thought they'd be like a few hundred bucks, so no point asking.
  7. It's also called a guitarfish... i think it's closer to the marine stingrays than to sharks. btw, any idea how much it is selling for? I've seen before at Reborn, but didn't ask last time.
  8. I think Ah Beng's open at 9+am and close at 7.30pm. At least it was on the saturday a few weeks ago when i went.
  9. Oh no, what a waste... you threw away your live rock. Live rocks will always be smelly unless they have already been cured/left in the shop's tank for a long time. To cut down on the smell, you should remove all obviously dead or dying materials on the rocks (eg. blackened sponges, crabs...) before adding the rocks into your tank.
  10. Websites say that longnose hawkfishes will be fine with shrimps for some time, till one day it decides to have a snack... so it is taking a risk keeping shrimps with them.
  11. This one has my vote! Has anyone ever seen this fish before in LFSes here?
  12. Anyone knows if reborn will be open today and what are their opening hours?
  13. Yes, which means if you do not have a constant supply of corals for it to eat, it will starve to death.. it is a 'reef-only' fish.
  14. Hiya, didn't go over to the corals section yesterday... Btw, does Reborn have the Formosa wrasse in today's shipment? Or anywhere else? Thanks!
  15. Most likely it has got ich. Ich is very common in tangs, and blue tangs seem to be exceptionally susceptible to ich. You can refer to the section on Disease/Parasite Control of this forum for an idea of how to prevent and treat ich.
  16. Anyone spotted any pistol shrimp anywhere, other than the randall?
  17. Ah yes, then that must be the Randall Pistol shrimp.. Yasha gobies will pair with the Tiger pistol shrimps too, which are bigger, bolder, more visible, and in my opinion, more interesting:
  18. Stingrays are not easy to keep alive leh... btw, how much did you get yours for?
  19. Was at Reborn just now and saw one guy buy like 10 over fishes at one go, a whole variety.. tangs, sweetlips, wrasses etc... After discount it was $75. I was like ... i sure hope he knows what he is doing... adding so many fishes at one go is a sure recipe for disaster. Anyway, Reborn's fish section is very very empty... only got a few lonely prickly leatherjackets/filefishes, wrasses, tangs left. Coral section i didn't check.
  20. That's a pregnant pistol shrimp... Non-aggressive most of the time and should not post a threat to your other lifestock.. unless you got small delicate creatures in your tank. well, at least mine hasn't given me any problems... so far. Helps to finish up leftover uneaten food on the sandbed.
