This really brings me back to my guitar tadpole days base on the G, C, D chords you have mentioned, I would suggest you try changing in this sequence: C - G - D it's much easier to change from G to D for a beginner but to really progress, may i suggest G - Em - C - D with this 4 basic chords you can play to tonnes of songs (can impress girls some more...) let me know if you need help on Em chord have fun and keep the groove!
