    leave the rocks in your tank when tank cycling. maybe turn off your skimmer as well.

    adding the surface skimmer might be a solution but i think you should find out the cause for the oily surface. my tank has fishes and LR too but there isnt any oil on the surface.

    imo, do not do water change during the cycling period. you can do so after the tank cycling is completed.

    for my case when i switch to a bigger tank.. i cycle my new tank for 2 months without adding any LS/prawns or bacteria. just added all my LR from old tank to new tank. my fish n corals had to live in a blue tub for 2 months...lol

    for corallife salt, most of the time i get from petmart at serangoon. come in 2 types, 1 with the T-shirt and 1 without. with T-shirt i think its around $65. regarding the "undissolved white stuff" doesnt happen to me.

    i can get the LED panel that is similar to those that are installed on the ERP gantry. but how do i check if they are suitable for reef tanks? its a 3FT panel.
