Red Sea Coral Pro in the lead.. personally i like red sea coral pro, but the u mix them up and keep them in a bottle for 3 days or so, theres this residue clumping at the bottom, need to shake and stir before using.

I pre mix my water and store them inside 1.5L Life bottles.. ready to use.

How does coral coloration using IO compare to other salt? Im using coral life salt. Its seems like the coral color faded and not healthy.

Nothing spectacular. Coral was healthy, no enhanced coloration though. Hard to dissolve, recommend to aerate overnight. The batches are very constant though. Good salt if you want to have a constant salt as a base for dosing

I was surprised that Tropic Marine pro reef salt does not really contain good Mg and dkh. I measured using Salifert test kit, Mg only around 11xx and dkh is around 5-6 range. I have a tub of Redsea coral reef pro, the label showed 12.2 dkh, 14xx Mg and when measured using Salifert, it is really as what in the label.

The way we mix matters. It could be because of some precipitation.

I found this article good

http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2007-03/rhf/index.php

He said:

Do not add anything other than salt mix to the freshwater unless you determine, after mixing in the salt, that it is deficient in something important. Add the salt and stir. Adding the salt before the water can be okay, but causes an unusually high salinity for the period when you are adding water, which can result in the formation of certain precipitates that may be hard to redissolve.

It wasn't really high all along. It has low levels, as advertised, so similar to natural seawater, corals can't feel the difference. Now, even test kits can't see the difference.

I have used 3 different brands of salt before.

1.Tropic Marin

2. Red Sea (non Pro)

3. BioMarine

Tropic Marin - Although have good reviews from many reefers, I find that my LS don't do as well as using Red Sea. Dissolves fast too.

Red Sea - Cheap and good. Dissolves average... will have some white powder remaining.

BioMarine - No longer have stock. Its those cheapo salt mix that I use when I started. Poor solubility... alot of white ppt left floating and in the water.

But however, I think its the best salt of the 3, because everytime I use it on a newly cycled tank, I had an outbreak of coraline algae in just a few weeks... Anyone seen this salt around please let me know!
