Reviving my reef tank :

Crystal glass 53" x 22" x 17" rimless (inclusive of 12"x22"x17" IOS)

Life Reef HVS3-24 with mazzei venturi

ATI Sunpower 8 x 39w T5 (4 x Blue plus, 2 x Aqua blue special, Coral plus)

ZET Light 3 x 3w LEDs moonlight

Arctica 1/3 Hp + 1/4 Hp back up

Vortech mp40w x 3 + Jebao wp25

Eheim 1264 x 3 + water blaster 5000

Vortech back up battery

TLF-150 + Rowaphos

Activated carbon

Kamoer 3 channel + CaCl2 + NaHCo3

150L Refugium with DSB, miracle mud, cheato

2ft T5 x 2 light tubes for refugium

I dun think its a gd idea to dose anything if u never test these 3 parameters.

Lol... Just b'coz I find that it's too much work to test so many parameters for keeping clams... Please do not pass judgement so easily James72. You do not know how much time I spend on this hobby...

Precisely... TThat's why I never mention anything about KS from the start... I guess keeping clam is not my cup of tea... So I dun see why people need to be so rude about it...

My first clam also died from pyramid snails. By the time i found out and took action too late le, it never managed to recover and died eventually

Mine still alive... Just dunno when it'll kick the bucket... Maybe will make clam omelette since I cannot feed it to the fishes or throw it away... Hahaaa...

How long did you clam survive after the pyramid snail attack?

Its our responsibility to give the best care we can to the livestock we purchase. Its like any pet, we value their lives, and will provide care as appropriate to their needs. Sometimes, we can't cater to all its needs, i.e we try our best to remove pest, kill off itch from fishes, control water parameters, but they still die. But from this we can also learn what to avoid, and what to implement to make a difference in future.

Either way, if you reckon clam is not for you, than a good lesson is learnt and you can avoid such purchases in future. Only trust a reliable seller. Clams are not all difficult, it may be true what the LFS is telling you, but if it isn't opening, its a good sign that something is wrong in the tank, like pest or water chemistry. As mentioned, you wont be testing your parameters, i suggest keeping less demanding livestock, or just stick to fishes, as corals including clams rely heavily on water chemistry and good husbandry.

And yes, if you don't have even have an inch of guilt if something is going to die, than change of hobby will be the best option. Well, if you do, than i hope you learn from it.
