Its simple my dear Watson. After thorough investigations and fact finding, the fingers point towards two on the list and two plausible reasons that is not on it.

Mystery Wrasse & Fire Shrimp are strong candidates for the murder. Their brethren in other tanks have been recorded to be belligerent towards cleaner shrimps especially the Mystery Wrasse. It has been known that they are intelligent creatures who strike when your shrimp is most vulnerable, molting time. Here's an instance in a land faraway where someone faced this issue. http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1786463

The other two reasons, you have a rogue crab in your live rocks, out of sight but certainly not out of contention for being the murderer. OR your shrimp simply passed away due to natural causes.

I hope this brings closure for you. :)

Quis custodiet ipsos custodes

Too many people spend money they haven't earned to buy things they don't want to impress people they don't like.

Oh ... Forgot to mention that elusive flame hawk ...

Yesterday when I put a new cleaner shrimp into tank that elusive flame hawk wanted to nip it machiam mysis feeding session ....

As for the craps... I think I have executed one by poking and imprisoned the other to exile in the refugium ... Hope there is no number 3 !

My 5 cents worth.

Murderer : Flame Hawk.

It happens to me ..... My Flame Hawk murders my 3 X Cleaner ..

Flame Hawk even dares to attack my Percula Clown & Harlequin Tusk ...

Just to share.... had 2 big cleaner shrimps with me for almost 2 yrs. Suddenly noticed left one. Hmmm... maybe died of old age. But the next day saw the other one's tail coming out from my 4.5" blue tang. What!! Have I not feed you enough!?! Well, moral of the story... expect the unexpected. They each have their own character and you can never be too sure that all as reported will be the same in your tank. That is rather so called the interesting part of this hobby. You will never be 100% sure what is going to happen. A lot of evolution going on in there.

Anyway, above is just my point of view. Can regard is crab from a newbie in this hobby. Have a great weekends guys/gals!!
