SRC Member MaxJ23 Posted July 15, 2019 SRC Member Share Posted July 15, 2019 Hi Guys, just starting out setting up a marine tank Been doing planted tanks for some time and decided to go into making a marine tank. Would just like to get recommendations where is a good place to buy saltwater fish? Noticed most LFS only carry freshwater and its quite difficult to find saltwater fish. Thank you! Solo77
Nowadays, price for livestock can vary alot. Hence, do Yr research before buying. If you are buying normal livestock, good to consider T95, aquamarin, pinnacle, ah beng, coral farm, etc. Quote Tank : 4 X 2 X 2 with low iron front panel and external overflow Skimmer : BK SM200 with waste collector Return Pumps : Red Dragon 6m3 and Ehiem 1262 FR : 2 X Deltec 509 & powered by AB2000 Nitrate Filter : Deltec NF 509 and tee off from AB2000 Calcium R'tor : Deltec PF 501 with RM secondary chamber Kalkwasser R'tor : Deltec KM500 Chiller : Pansonic 1 HP Compressor with 20m titanium Coil Wave Makers : 4 X Tunze 6055 with 7096 & Vortec MP40w Controller : GHL Profilux Lighting : ATI Powermodule 10 or 8 tubes Water Top-up : Water Top-Up tank powered by Tunze Osmolator External Monitor : American Pinpoint pH and Temp. SRC Member Rethinam Posted July 15, 2019 SRC Member Share Posted July 15, 2019 Just my two cents worth:1) Sealife: the fishes seem to be more hardy and usually they acclimatize fast. Almost 80-90% are pallet feeding. 2) Specialized aquatics: very well taken care off and quarantined well. But based on my experience the immunity of the fishes is not strong 3) Ah Beng/iwarna have the best variety of fishes but make sure you pay special attention and emphasis to strict quarantine. Also check if the fishes are pallet feeding. Sent from Singapore Reef Club mobile app
SRC Member Rethinam Posted July 15, 2019 SRC Member Share Posted July 15, 2019 Don’t forget to think of the behaviors and relationship of different fishes interacting with each other when getting different types. Lucky got quarantine. For SAS, your immunity is referring to underfed or more prone for dieaseas?
SRC Member Rethinam Posted July 15, 2019 SRC Member Share Posted July 15, 2019 They are very well fed and well taken care. But because they are in such optimum settings I am not sure if they are hardy enough to take small fluctuations in water standards. Solo77
If TS is buying normal fishes, not many places will do thorough quarantine. For TS, for eye opening, if u have Yr own transport, variety wise, can go coral Farm, ah beng, sas, iwarna, etc. If by public, think ah beng and pinnacle, easier as quite near mrt Station. SRC Member tsimlw Posted July 23, 2019 SRC Member Share Posted July 23, 2019 My personal experience with Specialised Aquatics is a bit different. I also just started out. Bought 3 different types of fish from them and never had any issues. All alive and well. I guess sometimes it is also down to luck Just my two cents worth:1) Sealife: the fishes seem to be more hardy and usually they acclimatize fast. ELLO
My 2 cents. 1) Ah Beng (Geylang) Bought fishes a few times but didn't make it. Feel that the fishes are not really well taken care of, and immunity is low. Tanks always have sick fishes. Prices are very competitive, in fact, one of the lowest. 2) Pinnacle (Tampines) Tanks are cleaner than Ah Beng. Shop environment better than Ah Beng. Fishes are better taken care of. Boss is approachable and offers advice z However, an uncle staff there is not very friendly and approachable. Do not like to entertain questions and can be a little sarcastic. 3) Iwarna (Pasir Ris) Wide variety. Constant updating on FB which is good. Prices are competitive. Tevin and Jun Kai are knowledgeable, friendly and offers good advice. Fishes are generally in good health because of their copper system. Environment not as comfortable as the rest but still ok. 4) Specialised Aquatics (Bukit Timah) Prices are the steepest. However , fishes are very well taken care of. In fact, the best amongst the 4. Environment, also the best, most comfortable and cleanest amongst the four. Staff are very friendly. Pay a premium for the fishes.
