I heard that the sand-sifter is good in ruffling through the sand to prevent those big-clumps-of-algae. Those purple in colour, I think.

Can someone clarify the use of sand-sifters? Do they reduce the DSB's ability to decrease nitrates?

don't worry the sand shifter only touches the surface of the sand. it can't go much deeper
