SRC Member cityofangels Posted November 18, 2005 SRC Member Share Posted November 18, 2005 The common cleaner snails are Turbo Snails. Their shells are pyramid-shape. You can generally find them at any LFS for about $1 each, depending on size. Examples of Snails
SRC Member Just me Posted November 18, 2005 SRC Member Share Posted November 18, 2005 they generally have quite long life span.........do you have hermit crab in your tank??
seanewbie
dont mean to intercept, but does hermit crab eat corals?
SRC Member andylee Posted November 19, 2005 SRC Member Share Posted November 19, 2005 Some will pick on the corals looking for food, especially the red hairy ones Quote Project R.E. SRC Member CKS Posted November 19, 2005 SRC Member Share Posted November 19, 2005 Actaully those pyramid-shelled snail r trochus. They're commonly available for $1 .. they can be spotted around the southen coast of Singapore as well they're effective against hairalgae .. i do see their bite marks amoung the brown film algae .. but i think my magnet cleaner is more effective they do not seems to prey on macroalgae many factors why they died in your tank... assuming ur is already cycled.. NO3 is already at satisfactory level.. maybe they couldnt acclimatize ?? how did u transport ur snail from LFS to ur tank and acclimatize? normally i'll request the LFS sales person to not to add water to the bag.. so i'll transport them dry... or if u insist on transporting them wet u can try to place them in empty container and let dry for 15min to allow them to expel excess saltwater..b 4 introducing them into your tank. SRC Member Dazza Posted November 19, 2005 SRC Member Share Posted November 19, 2005 yep no prob at all being dry cos they can be found during low tides along the beaches here as well. Tides these 2 days very gd low 0.3 m at ard 7 pm,, so maybe u can collect some... Just like to reiterate, do not collect the drills that are very commonly found here. Best look for smaller turbos or trochus as these 'll eat the algae off yr tank walls....
