wpcheng
Hi I am new to Tunze product. If the pump for Tunze skimmer is spoiit, how do we change the pump. Is it a proprietary pump and will it be expensive ? Can we use some other pump instead ?

Is it a proprietary pump and will it be expensive ? Can we use some other pump instead ? Hi bwlee, I am not really sure, but I guess the good people at ReefDepot will be able to assist if the warranty still covers. Secondly yes the pump is proprietary. The impellers, magnets, brush sets are similar to their Turbelle streams. These are one of the best in the markets. (In fact bulk of the cost for the skimmer is due to the pump)..My point is they are not so easily damaged... Cheers:)
SRC Member gunzo Posted January 13, 2006 SRC Member Share Posted January 13, 2006 hey Eudaceous, you notice any difference to skimmer effectiveness depending on the water level in the sump?? my water level dropped quite abit since i started using the skimmer.. and at approx 5" i almost overflowed the cup today 1.4L man that cud be the other reason mine worked slower too

Can we use some other pump instead ? the pump is replaceable according to reefdepot ard 200.. not fix yet. but RC says can replace the motor part only...anyway that's likely the portion that spoil... SRC Member chewlaoheng Posted January 15, 2006 SRC Member Share Posted January 15, 2006 wonder if 9010 is better than deltec mc500... since it suppose to handle load ard twice of mc500...it should be equal if not better .. ... and a little bit cheaper. (check my pics in earlier postings) The overflowing I guess is good..(did you introduce any coral elements, additives?) Just get rid of whatever that gets skimmed. It is posibble that the things that were skimmed did not have high surface tension.. (undissolved salts, etc) . I notice I get extra skim when I introduce 8000 bacteria. or triplle KH buffers.. or even new NSW. Hope this helps
SRC Member andysho Posted January 20, 2006 SRC Member Share Posted January 20, 2006 In my own view ... whoever use wat products .... we should never give horrible comment on it. SRC Member gunzo Posted January 22, 2006 SRC Member Share Posted January 22, 2006 No Bubbles or no Foam..?? yes there's bubbles .. but its at the bottom of the cup .. right at the bottom .. and not foaming .. it'll start foaming once in a while (like I mentioned .. about 2 days once) .. then it'll drop down again at the bottom .. So any bros can tell me if skimmers can really do that ?? how about those super duper LFS becketts ?? my bioload can't be that low .. can it ?? SRC Member chewlaoheng Posted January 22, 2006 SRC Member Share Posted January 22, 2006 sounds like my AquaC urchin.. nowaday seldom see bubbles reaching the cover of the cup.
SRC Member zorden Posted January 22, 2006 SRC Member Share Posted January 22, 2006 i only experience this when i am using my MINI beckett.. now change a skimmer and never experience this "situation" anymore... Now, rain or shine still foaming...and foamin Quote I am just an average FR (fish reefing) writer. If you like my FRs, please upz my points. salmon11
gunzo, in order to get your skimmer to perform best for you is to fix your skimmer compartment. The water level in your skimmer compartment must always consistent, other than that your skimmer may not perform well. so my suggestion is, to fix your sump, install another divider in to you sump. SRC Member andysho Posted January 23, 2006 SRC Member Share Posted January 23, 2006 It seems that states like the tunze skimmer "Tunze was the first company to make a protein skimmer and the first to make a motorized protein skimmer so we have 40+ years experience. "
SRC Member gunzo Posted January 26, 2006 SRC Member Share Posted January 26, 2006 Interesting .. the ability of the Tunze to skim is really very tied to the water level !! with the water level at around 5-6in depth .. the bubbles is cotton candy type (finally see what is cotton candy type bubbles ) .. the skimmate is BLACK collects about once 3 days or so .. very dry .. with water level near the waterline .. the skim is wetter .. lighter brown collection and quite watery every 2 days or so .. Salmon11 .. thanks for the suggestion .. I'll go wall it up now that I know
SRC Member andysho Posted January 28, 2006 SRC Member Share Posted January 28, 2006 I just brought this skimmer 9005 from a reefer and i can say is good ,, i do not see any problem with it If the skimmer is lousy , maybe something wrong with those ppl from reefcentral who give good review on it Either they got nothing better to do or all of them are working for tunze co I think it all voice down down to one whether know how to tune a not ~~ Even if one get a super exp skimmer , no product knowledge and dun know how to tune properly ...also worthless So at the end of day , no use of bringing one's product performance down esp if one never even use it before

SRC Member zorden Posted January 30, 2006 SRC Member Share Posted January 30, 2006 i would love to get Deltec instead of a hns (dual pump ) skimmer but after considering few factors such as LOCAL support..i got an overkill skimmer.. HnS..so far no problem...... If in the future, Deltec support improves, i will surely support them. Quote I am just an average FR (fish reefing) writer. If you like my FRs, please upz my points.
