Hi bro sherman,

I would like to have the same combination of what you are doing now.

can you PM me the total cost of the LEDs and the constant drivers for the set up that you are doing now.

As for the DC, pls advise what configuration. I have many DC from laptops etc that I can use.

I intent to place order with you by this week.

Thank you.

regards

fooyl

As all my friends still on leave cannot get any help.

So do all the drilling and tapping myself.

Not easy job especially the hole is only M2 size.

Finish the job this morning 0400 am

Previous Tank 3 x 2.5 x 2 ft since year 2005. 23 Jan 2009 fully decom my 3ft. Now only left 24"x14"x16" and I am very happy cos can see all my fish in near range.. haha

Sorry, I am referring to your threat #330. Total 14 LEDs.

I noticed that you connect the LED in series? Is there any reason for doing this or is parallel better?

Its easier to find a 24V, 3A supply than to find a 5V, 15A supply.

Running LEDs in parallel uses higher current compared to series. You will need a higher gauge wire to prevent excessive voltage drop and heating.

Smart LED drivers are able to run both in series and parallel, other drivers may not be able to regulate the current when 1 of the LEDs fail. That will cause the excess current to flow into the rest of the LEDs thus causing all the rest of the LEDs to fail as well.

If you run a fixed 700mA LED driver, connecting 2 LEDs in parallel will cause the current to be splitted, resulting in 350mA in each LED thus underdriving the LED

Thanks for the reply. Just thought that when in series, if 1 LED fail, the whole circuit will be dead.

sry to ask, cause i've fixed my led light already.

first, i've use a 24v with 3A power supply to run my 24 LED. but i connected my lighting from parellel to series. is it correct?

i've split the power to 4 output which connected 6 LED in series method. which mean i got 4 rows of lighting. am i under running my LED?

how u guys can teach me more. cause i only know nuts about electricity.

thanks.

depending on your constant current driver,if you run at 700mA per row is enough.

another alternative is to use seperate power supply for white and blue connected to different timer to stimulate day/night.

I noticed that you connect the LED in series? Is there any reason for doing this or is parallel better?

I have a total of 21 LEDs .

I break them down into 3 groups.

Each group is 7 LEDs in series.

Each group is drive by one LED power supply or one DC adaptor

with one constant current driver.

The number of LEDs we connect in series is basr on the forward

voltage and forward current of each LED.

Each LED forward voltage is around 3 vdc.

If you drive 1 LED you need around 5dc.

Since I am using 24 DC adaptor I can drive up to 7 LEDs

so I connect 7 LED in series

Bro,

What is your tank size?

Post #330 is for 1 ft by 1ft by 1 ft tank only

For constant current driver I still do not have them manufacture as yet

due to some technical issue with this new chip.

What DC adaptor you have 24 v 2.5 A or what?

And how many pieces

Do you need aluminium mounting plate also?

And do you have a light casing to mount the whole assembly?

Lastly you just want all the parts or you want me to DIY the whole set

for you

Cheers

Hi bro sherman,

I think what I need is only the LEDs.

can I check for your 1ftx1ftx1ft tank, you are using 4W LED or 1Watt?

My tank size is 24ft x 14ft x 16ft ht . Effective tank area or lighted area is 19ft x 14ft.

I have a 20yrs DC constant driver built by my father and he said that the gadget can regulate the current as per the required by the LED. I think 24V 2.5A is not an issue. How many of this kind constant driver do I need?

also have aluminum plate .

Please see pics.

Bro,

Chances of burning off your LED is very high unless you run at 50% of the rated current.Try to invest in a constant current driver or LED power supply as soon as you can

you will have problem finding a resistor to dissipitate the power with a 15ohm resistor.

if you really wan to use resistor,

In theory you can run with 7 in a row with a 3.3ohm 1watt resistor provided everything is at constant.

you will burn your led if there is a variation of a few voltage increase in the voltage source.

what sherman say is correct invest in a constant current driver, the cost is cheaper compare to your rows of led.
