how long does it take to "run in"?

thanks

dnsfpl,

I think what your hearing is the air getting sucked into the pump; did you put the air valves on the lines? Also, open the air valves to about 2 o'clock for a good skim.

On the reef octopus you have a noise damper on the air inlet, put that on the Deltec airline and all the worries are gone.

Another thing you may want to take note. The pump may produce a lot of noise if the air valve is more than 50% close. :)

i second this!

If you have to close the air valve >50%, reduce the water level inside the skimmer by adjusting water outlet valve

This is considered fully open. It is strange to have noise then.

Likely trapped air in the pump. Try to turn pump on and off 2 or 3 times to dispense it.

If noise still persist, call RD. :)

P.S. Alwso noise level is very subjective, so it could be the efficient of the suction. ;)

if this is the level of noisy an average ap851 produce, mine consider very acceptable lol

Mine lousy skimmer is nosier than tt... Not Needle wheel one though...

1ft cube with IOS [the low tech tank]

1. JBJ C-breeze to keep temp hovering around 27-28'C

2. LED clip on - 120 bulbs

-skimmer-less-

My 3 humble equipments that keeps my tank running... [DRIED OUT]

1. The RSM itself of course 2.My NEW Deltec MCE-300 Skimmer 3. My trusty Arctica Chiller

Tank parameters:

Temperature maintained at 25.3'C to 24.7'C

No3: 10ppm(b4 the use of the deltec skimmer)

No3: 5ppm (after use of the skimmer)

Others? too lazy to measure...LOL

I don't like the sound of the occasional rattling that i hear from the video. same sound when there is no water in the pump.

The occasional rattling noise don't seem normal.

Give RD a call and see if they can help. ;)

Mine doesn't have this rattling noise. But your skimming is definitely more "chio" than mine.
