Welcome to the sps reefing family

Have got just two ideas for your consideration.

Lightings - See that your lightings are quite aggressive with 4 MHs. Nothing wrong but just try to cater for a design which you can switch between MH and T5s just in case you decided to give T5 a try. Btw, you might wanna consider placing the blowing fan at the level in between the MH and the water level, this will ensure the heat generated by MH is directly blown towards the exhaust fan = better heat extration.

Sump - Try to cater a refugium section, in case you wanna keep some macro algea for nutrient export. There will be advantage with some critters like pods and so on to thrive there which is good for your corals including sps.

I find bro Lemon Lemon's sum tank is quite cool, check out his design :)

Happy planning !

Treat others the way you wanna be treated...

lol thanks for remembering my sump.

just a reminder, if anyone intends to to my sump's cabinet design, please ensure you oil the hinges on the flip top roof otherwise it will rust and become very hard to open. hard to open = no access to sump.

Yes, saw Lemon's sump tank and like the idea of "tank inside a tank". Will try to incorporate in case I need to ever incarcerate a naughty fish. (though catching it first might be an issue....)

One design idea I have for sump is to have the return pump compartment as huge as possible(80-100l). Planning to plumb a valve-controlled pipe from overflow all the way to drainage behind the tank. When doing water change, I can simply open this pipe and water would be pumped out by main return. As you can imagine, the water level in the return pump compartment would fall as I do this so need to keep it big. Half of water change job done.

Good idea about placement of fan between MH and water. Will add one more fan there while keeping the higher fan as well.

Welcome suggestions about the lighting configuration...and everything else. Thanks

Wow... looks like a massive project in the works!

You might wanna consider replacing the bio balls with Bio-homme instead.

To top off what Lemon suggested, you can try using Vaseline on most metal parts. Works pretty well.

Vaseline - checked.

BTW, can anyone teach me how to insert image into the post itself instead of attaching as thumbnail?

Appreciated.

Some updates on plans:

- increasing width from 70 to 80cm and 2 cm of height. So now it is a 288G with dimensions of 200 x 80 x 72cm

- Supplementing 2 more T5 lights

- Changing the top cabinet design to align with bottom compartment lines.

Finally moved from paper to reality...have taken a bit longer than originally thought but like they say - only bad things happen quickly in this hobby.

A few photos to show how the tank looks.

Tank is located in Dining Area

Going to start adding live stock soon. Cycled for more than 2 months now. Pretty excited and welcome suggestions of where to go for fish shopping. New in this hobby in Singapore and have only been to one fish shop so far. (suaku right?) Also please help me recommend interesting live stock. Thanks.

Congrats for turning vision to reality!

Applause for the patience shown in cycling the tank for 2 months without itching on adding livestocks! I am sure you will be rewarded with a more stable system with all biological aspects given sufficient time to reach equilibrium.

Thanks for sharing. ;)

very very neat and nice... Just be careful about the plugs and sockets that's above your sump.. wouldn't want those to fall in. :P Do keep up with the updates of this tank.. looks AWESOME!

Very good idea about having a pipe leading out for Fuss free water change... you've given me ideas for my next tank setup too. :)

Cheers, ;)

Hi Wilson, very sharp observation may I say.

Yes dosing pump still part of the plan but have not installed as corals would go in probably in 2 mth. Here's a pic of the pump for you.

Thanks guys for the encouragement. Wanted a tank as big as possible that can fit into my space for the fishes and all the eqt. Wife insisted on keeping it neat or NO TANK.

Dom, hope the permit not needed for private. In any case tank is adjacent to housing shelter so think ok.

Desideria, good point on the socket. Will be careful!

Wilson, I stay near Ang Mo Kio so guess it's neither. if I just go to one shop this weekend for LS. Which one would you recommend?

Here's a few more pics

Rocks a bit more close-up

Like the shape of this piece. Looks small here but it is about 40 cm wide

gallery_18314_103_63142.jpg

External Overflow - like this design as less distraction and more room in main display.

gallery_18314_103_19100.jpg

Tunze Controller for the 4x 6105. Comes with a led light that simulate moon cycle. Will try later

gallery_18314_103_43282.jpg

Always like Tunze and these guys really create waves. LFS still owes me another 2.

gallery_18314_103_8998.jpg

Added a side trap-door to view the tank from side when necessary. In case some fishes try to hide from me.

HaHa. Did not even realize till u pointed it out. Now it makes better sense. Was wondering why the connecting wires are awkward.

Caught 3 parasitic isopods overnight using a DIY "water bottle" fish trap. They are 1 plus cm long and shaped like a lice. Evil looking monsters! First noticed one on the tail of my orange striped goby and freaked out a bit. Will continue trapping for a while until sure totally rid of it!

Added 4 Fire Shrimps bought from Ah Beng to the tank today. Should have bought six instead as they all went into hiding.
