i saw some coral similar to the one in the pic... but it's brownish in colour and the star kindda opens and closes... like the way you open your palm and den close your fingers, den open and close again every few seconds... very intriguing... just wanna know wat it is...

dino ones are polyps..

is it hard to keep? as in does it need very good water parameters? does anyone have them? will other fishes attack it as a moves and looks like food?

Don't know how many species there are or their names - must be hundreds of em. But one thing i know, the tentacles grow really long about 1-2 inches! if the temp's ~ 25C.

I was told by an etablished LFS that had samples in a display tank to prove it.

Ya, Xeniids(also known better as Pulse Corals) are very super hard to keep, even for experienced hobbyists. Only those with advanced aquarium technology should attempt to keep them.

corals of genus Xenidae(xenias) are difficult to acclimate to your tank. But once properly adapted, it is a very hardy coral. even dead parts can rebud and grow again.

star polyps are of gennus clavularia or pachyclavularia. not same as xenia but is a relative.
