Thanks! will check it out.

hardware shop aluminum may not get the right fit.

looks like today have to comb jalan besar & kelanta area

Not sure if it's the top flr or the 3rd flr of SLT. But s u leave the escalator (ascending), to ur right is a shop that sells a type of pretty thick aluminium bar with punched square holes . I bought a 6' length bar from the proprietor , a couple of mths back. Pd only $6 for it. Similar bar available at a couple of shops on the left side but on the lower floors. Shudder....their price. U can check it out. The bar allows u to stick 2 strips of flex leds side by side, after diy sawing, of course.

Happy shopping.

Hi, I got my thick aluminium bar @ SLT Continental electronics.. Try get thicker one to avoid warp in long run... The Thick Aluminium bar @ SLT is not cheap, U may try Ubi industry park if convenient.. If normal thinner Alu bar, u can try Clementi Hardware shop too.. Slightly cheaper... Cheers..

found the shop.

The aluminum strip/bar is quite suitable ... is light and thin ard 3cm wide

just look see never ask price cos they look more like do big business :paiseh:

will hunt further for bar that is narrower ..else this will be it.

oh they also have those wire management trunk that be be as overflow comb.

I found that aluminum bar in the link attached in my previous post

but one side is higher so kinda not suitable for placing and light maybe blocked.. wat a waste as it has the rail for the led strip to sit nicely...

anyway will continue to hunt for the best fit :)

Bro, for LED I read somewhere that it depend on brightness which is measured in K ( some had said like 8-10K ) and yes height or depth of tank? For T5, wattage apply? As for LED, wattage tends to be lower than T5. So for normal corals like zoas and mushrooms, for height/depth of tank of just 1 ft, what is minimum LED requirement to be sufficient?

Kindly correct and advise if I am wrong. Thanks.

If just zoas and mushrooms (But not those light demanding type) around 9 to 12 three watt led should be enough

the dealextreme's high power 950lm led emitter metal strip has 2 ends with +/-

how to connect to the DC adapter? connect any one end will do?

Connect the positive terminal of the power adaptor to the + sign on your led strip

Hi bro,

Do not compare 3M tape with Bond-Ply tape as It's designed for LED's heat dispensing purposes.

Bond-Ply is thermally conductive, electrically isolating, pressure sensitive adhesive pad/tape. It meant for the round metal core pcb used for assembled LEDs. This pad makes it easy to fasten the round base directly to a heat sink without the need for screws or messy compounds and adhesives. The bonding become stronger when heat increased so you would not afraid of the LED to drop off.

Fore more info on.Bond_Ply 100

You are overdriving the LED strip that why the LED burnt off. FYI, LED is current driven not voltage driven so increase current over manufacturer's LED spec will definitely burnt off the LED or shorten the LED life span. Pls take note and read more.

James is right.

Do not use normal double side tape.

Use the thermal double side tape.

I have being using since day 1.I think I build my first LED light set in 2009

Till today also never drop out.

for my small nano tank gona use each strip of 35cm long

testing the heat in room temp... after ON for 2hrs, the strip hardly can call warm .

will see 5hrs later ....

after 5.5hrs still the same as before

shorter length lesser load lesser heat

My latest attachment uses a varnished 3.5cm aluminium bar (only the side exposed to the 3M tape that comes with the 1m led strip). So far it's been more than a month and things r okay. I still use the 12v 2000mA driver recommended by that basement shop n m keeping my fingers crossed.

  • 2 weeks later...

So for mine it is still 1 x 12v/1A DC adapter for 1 led? I just follow the Specs of the LED should not go wrong right?

You need Thermal Epoxy, it's like our Coral Glue but these things conducts heat very well.

Also, you need LED drivers, not the standard Power Supply bricks. LEDs require constant current to show off it's full brightness, only LED driver provides that while other standard PSU provides constant voltage. Solder the LED in series instead of parallel.

You get the China made LED drivers in SLT, the bright LED shop near escalator. The drivers are rated like (7-12)3W, which means it can handle seven to twelve LED with each being 3 watts.

Actually, I don't know if the shop is still there, it has been 4 months. I still have 2 LED driver lying around if you are keen.

If it is strip led with build in constant current driver you only need a power adaptor. You do not need a LED driver.

However if you are using single LED then you need to have a LED driver.
