the reeftec and stream uses the propellor to push water..ur version uses water to push the propellor!!hahaha...doesn't that act as a constrictor???

anyone knows where to get a proper propellor for a reeftec diy?

You can try shops for remote controlled aircraft or boats. They will have small plastic screws/propeller.

Yeah the reeftec propeller is a boat model screw. You have to get the right type too... you dun want to pull water into your DIY reeftec.

You can call it a Reeftic. :D:lol::P

wat if the propeller of spades idea can be connected straight to a powerhead's shaft? would it work?

wat i'm trying to get at is a sort of underwater overhead filter motor running sideways. using a liquid powerhead with a little longer shaft & small propeller. only how to keep shaft in position! i wonder.

would one of those small PC fans(processor chip fan)conneted to a shaft do-or just the powerheads standard one? since stopping & starting like the reeftec will burn out motor- i guess running it 4-6hrs a day will be ok right? i got a powerhead that stops when it gets hot(abt 1-2hr), then starts again when it cools. kinda useless as a filter. rated 1200 l/hr, got it free.

A reeftec is a direct drive unit unlike Streams which are magnetic drives.

You just need to make sure that the prop is attached to the shaft securely enough as the torque will break either the prop's drive dog or the even the shaft itself.

Your PHead has overheating protection, but why is that happening is kinda strange IMO.

It a powerful pump use commonly for the overhead filter. It is not the small type of overhead filter but those biggy type.

I saw an article by a US guy on the internet that uses this to create wave as an alternative to Reeftec or Tunze.

He mentioned that the pump can really move a "lot" of water. He uses 2 on his 6 feet reef tank. He uses a wavemaker and found that so far the pump last almost a year (switching on/off) w/o breakdown. It is still running.

I've got one and I'll probably get another one probaly 75 l/min.

It cost $50 for 60l/min and $55 for 75l/min. It runs at 16watt.

I uses light diffuser to house this pump above water.

No it is not a bilge pump. Bilge pump use DC and cannot run continously.

This one is AC operated and it is huge as compared to a bilge pump.

Do take note this Pump can be use only in large tanks probably 5 feet and above. Smaller tanks are not advisable.

Aquarium Products distributes the Gemini pump, an excellent air-cooled pump for creating water motion in the reef tank. It is rated at 960 gallons per hour (gph). The nozzle on the Gemini pump has a cross section of less than a square inch, producing a water velocity of over 120 inches per second as it exits the nozzle. While almost all tanks can handle the water flow of the Gemini pump, only large tanks can handle the velocity of the water exiting the Gemini. The solution is to increase the cross section of the pump nozzle, which maintains the flow of the pump while lowering the velocity of the water.

Yazid, I was at one of those LFS yeaterday looking at the pump that you have mentioned...

Notice that there is a metal bar in the internal....

won't it rust under the influence of saltwater??
