I think you dont really have to do anything. the diatom will use up the silicate present in the water and within a month, it should be gone.

The 3x2x2 tank arrived about one month ago.. Here is how it looks after I placed the LR into it. Its still very bare though..

Just to show you guys my still very bare 3 footer I set up about a month ago. Started this hobby about 1/2 a year ago, after watching "finding nemo" Rushed into setting up a 3 footer, knowing nuts about keeping marine fish.. here is a pic of my first tank.. resulting in at least 30+ casualties.. Also, I would like to add that without this forum.. I would prob have given up already!! (Who knows setting up a marine tank is soo..ooo difficult)

I have a lawnmower and a bi-color blenny living peacefully with each other. Seems like no problem, and my tank is only a 3 footer. But they are pretty small ones, about 1.5 inch only.

Yes they have. Its to keep the settings.. something like the CMOS battery.. will probably last for 4-5 years. Then I guess you have to replace the timer unless you wanna rip out the old one to replace them..
