SRC Member LittleBurger Posted March 25, 2013 Author SRC Member Share Posted March 25, 2013 Going summarize the findings. On 20 mar I mixed 20grams of the powder To 1gallon of water n dose it near to the return pumps. Nothing happened. Red sea po4 test kit still is the same color after an hr. Tank inhabitants no abnormal behaviour. Decided to mix the same ratio again and pour content at the filter sock. Next thing is the water in dt turned cloudy. I tested the water after the water became clear again. Sadly, po4 reading is the same. mixed the same ratio again and pour all into the fliter sock again but po4 just don't budge. Read up some more info on this lanthamun chloride as I assume this product is the same chemical. I decided to hook up the dosing tube to the ozone input of my skimmer. After various testing & readup on internet, on 24mar morning, the mixture ratio I changed to 40grams to 1gallon rodi. Dosage is 5ML every hr for 24hr. Tonite, 25mar , I measured my po4 and reading is undetectable. Livestock such as fishes n shrimps n corals s. Far ok. One clam looks normal but another which is sort of facing my return has shifted its position n close a bit. My red chilli coral are opened most of the times nut my orange sponge turns pale. By the way, after I started the experiment with this, I took a gamble to off the pump to my rowa reactor. Will post further updates. SRC Member LittleBurger Posted May 7, 2013 Author SRC Member Share Posted May 7, 2013 My FR of the phosphate remover...top layer of my cheato all withered away, turned slimy. Orange sponge tat turned white overnight, disintegrated. My teardrop clam closed up n never opened n died slowly. All these incidents happened immediately after performing this change. Though the dosage is fed directly to the skimmer pump, my only guess is some particulate powder exited the skimmer n went to display tank. So had to stop this dosing. Right now my po4 remover media is po4x4. Still prefer this to rowa due less rinsing prior to use. Sps are surviving. Teal milli from a bro living in cck. A sps Sps given by Reaper Plus a purple n green monti. All sps looking ok for quite some time. SRC Member LittleBurger Posted May 12, 2013 Author SRC Member Share Posted May 12, 2013 Since implementation of food dosing, So far the NPS corals are extended almost everyttime. This is of cos a no braine. SpS r ok. No change in po4 n no3. To keep the nps happy, food must be available. But when food is too much, it increases nutrients n sps not happy. So proper food introduction is important. Just the right amount so nps can captured it, & not the food being floated away from them. In the end the nps perish n sps also kaput. Hopefully, can succeed in keeping a diverse range of reef species, towards a real reef tank. Since reading on internet, there's 2 methods to supplying food to nps, kalk reactor with magnetic stirred and syringe pump. Both cost quite an amount n takes up significant amount of space. Well I decided to diy a cheap less than $10 syringe food dispenser unit. So far after a wk, every nps looks ok. Planning to buy a few more nps species to test out. The parts for diy syringe pump. SRC Member LittleBurger Posted May 15, 2013 Author SRC Member Share Posted May 15, 2013 Just bought a delay timer module $28 plus its base $5 to build a timer which can turn on/off for abt minimum 0.5secs. So now free up 1 channel of dosing pump. And also dosing pump pumping air to push the syringe pump is intermittently pushing food. Installed into a box. So u connect the plug to a timer plug. Once timer plug turns on at requested time, the timer delay will just switch on for 0.5secs which just pump abt 1-3ML of food. Next the ttimer plug is switched off. At the next timer plug switch on time, the process repeats itself. Video 1 Quote Tank size:36"x36"x24" Return pump" 2x Reef Octo 5000 Skimmer:BK Double Cone 200 on Reef Octopus DC 5500s. SRC Member LittleBurger Posted May 16, 2013 Author SRC Member Share Posted May 16, 2013 The syringe 60ml can be bought from Watson bugis. Bukit panj never sells. Guardian also sells but the nozzle is at centre whereas Watson type the nozzle is sided to a side. I guess it solves the problem of particulate food settling at the bottom. So if u position the syringe in a manner tat it can still be pump out. Not sure if get the picture. So cut away the plunger, leaving a bit of the plunger stem to aid stability of the black rubber tip. Get this tip and glue to the PVC cap. Poke a hole in the stem of plunger n tie a string to it. u pull the string to suck the liquid food into syringe. Then u insert the pvc cap into the syringe body. The pvc cap is a bit hard to insert in but u will get the hang of it. I did go n buy dry ice n hoping tat I put everything in n seal up the dry ice can last. But seems like dry ice can't last for 8hrs. right now just place syringe at top of my overflow floating on water. At least the tank water temp at 27 not so bad. SRC Member LittleBurger Posted November 22, 2013 Author SRC Member Share Posted November 22, 2013 It's been 2 mths plus tat my mainlight Kaput. Tank listed by 2 par38 bulbs. Tank plagued by red flatworms n green bubbles. My dosing system ca n kh bottles r empty for about 1mth. Observations I found 1)that red flatworms seems attracted to or reproduce under strong light. Huge population under areas shine by my par38 led light but little on dark areas. 2)the cubes additives ca, trace elements n iodine are still well shaped, never reduce much in size. My remaining sps got 4types n some lps still looking ok. Didn't measure ca, kh & mg. So the question I have is do we really need kh at 8. To add more problem to it, u can't find the same hinges used during the construction of the cabinet. So the screw holes may not align. SRC Member LittleBurger Posted December 15, 2013 Author SRC Member Share Posted December 15, 2013 On air circulation in the sump and electrical area. All the fanciful led fans became faulty due to marine environment. Boxer fans were used. One to blow air into sump area and another to suck out air from the sump area. The fans were 3000rpm but humidity in the sump and electrical area was high. Water droplets on the piping and dampness is observed on the power cables. One boxer fan has its input power short circuited and tripped my breaker. U will feel the heat when u open up the cabinet to access the sump. New project is get the 6" ventilation fan, 25waits. As previously I have a hole cut out at the bottom, I've directed the outlet facing the hole blowing towards the floor. The inlet will be sucking all the air in the sump and electrical area. A simple protection screen made. Primarily when u open the cabinet doors, u don't feel the warmth anymore. SRC Member LittleBurger Posted December 20, 2013 Author SRC Member Share Posted December 20, 2013 Going back to basics on filtration. Taking away the 2 reactors for chemical filtration which are po4 & organics removal media. Putting back the bio pellet reactor but will only be utilizing 1/6 of the specified quantity. Dosing bacteria. And adding uv light. Solely depending on mechanical and biological filtration. The reason is to have less guesswork when an issue occurs. Without the media, it frees up space in the sump & more space to take out skimmer cup. Without these media, the stuff extracted by the foam is darker. More space leads to ease of maintenance and would increase more frequent skimmer cup maintenance. Previously it is difficult to take out cup from sump area with the 2 reactors around. Had observed that skimmer is extracting darker content when the 2 reactors are removed. Quote Tank size:36"x36"x24" Return pump" 2x Reef Octo 5000 Skimmer:BK Double Cone 200 on Reef Octopus DC 5500s. SRC Member LittleBurger Posted March 2, 2014 Author SRC Member Share Posted March 2, 2014 Retired radion gen 1 with tir lens. Doesnt want to adjust individuals colors and wait for some period and corals changes its color, then later color faded and u start adjusting the colors again. Just wan something like a mh light where u can just select 10k, 14k 20k. Bought kessil a360we after reading and researching. Prefer a single point source light which the dense matrix led array provides. and it's full spectrum? It's also very very light. As read on the forums, the glitter is different as compared to the radion. However, as I have 2 rapidled par 38 bulbs as supplement, they sort of greatly reduce the glitter. So I suppose I need a 2 kessil so as to retire the rapidled par38.
