Care to share how does those external on socket plug works?

I don't have the picture.

It looks like a square box with the controller display at the side/bottom with the socket on it.

Depends on how you mount the controller according to the box size you got.

Tank : 3 x 2 x 1.8 ( setup end Feb 2014 ) --> 4 x 2 x 1.8 ( setup early Nov 2016 )
Skimmer : Bubble Magus NAC6 --> Bubble Magus Curve 7
Return pump : Jebao 10000l/h ( down in 17th December 2014 ) --> Jebao DC-12000 ( 19th December 2014 )
Compressor drop-in coil
Wavemaker : Tunze 6105 x 1
Lights : Modular based DIY LED light x 4

I had the same problem. The chiller guy connected my sensor to my DT... So now my chiller kicks in for one hour and rests for 3 hours...

Think your case are not same as him where yours kicks in for an hour, rest for 3hrs.

His is kicks in every 4mins.

The duration of the kicks in depend on the chiller/compressor size and the volume of water plus the degC to chill.

Tank : 3 x 2 x 1.8 ( setup end Feb 2014 ) --> 4 x 2 x 1.8 ( setup early Nov 2016 )
Skimmer : Bubble Magus NAC6 --> Bubble Magus Curve 7
Return pump : Jebao 10000l/h ( down in 17th December 2014 ) --> Jebao DC-12000 ( 19th December 2014 )

Thomas, is this reliable? Thinking of installing one of these external thermostat so my 1/3hp arctica can cut in every 1degC instead of 0.5degC

Cheers,

James

Hi James.

The term reliable depends on how you use it.

As long as the current rating for the relay reside in the controller able to handle the load, then is alright.

I have been doing that since I'm with freshwater tank to marine....

In fact now, after I have restart the tank back in Feb 2014 with compressor instead of chiller, my setup is slightly different where i use external relay to handle the load.

This will allows me to get the relay replacement for worst case.

Using the internal relay from the temperature controller will have difficulties or you may need to get an entire controller replace when that relay spoilt

Any idea how much does this cost?

Depending wether you are getting from forum ( used ), or you get someone to DIY for you or you buy the parts and DIY yourself.

Get the FOX model where you can have control kicks in at temperature down to 1 decimal.

The other model only allows you to kicks at absolute value, no decimal...

Ex. temperature set only : 26, 27, 28, etc

Fox model --> 26.5, 27.5, 27.3, etc

The deg to chill down can be from 0.1 to 1.2, etc

Tank : 3 x 2 x 1.8 ( setup end Feb 2014 ) --> 4 x 2 x 1.8 ( setup early Nov 2016 )
Skimmer : Bubble Magus NAC6 --> Bubble Magus Curve 7
Return pump : Jebao 10000l/h ( down in 17th December 2014 ) --> Jebao DC-12000 ( 19th December 2014 )
Compressor drop-in coil
