Do you use RO/DI?

You know After I started adding Kalk to tap water 2 years back. It din't take me long to invest in a distiller. have you seen the brownish residue after adding Kalk

anyway I drink water I distill and use it for my tank too now.

I started to use DI water for my water changes and top ups since 2 weeks ago... so far not much noticable difference but it's too early to tell I suppose...

After using RO/DI, no regrets. Should have started with it all along. My waste water goes into the koi pond. So no waste water at all.

use evian water! makes ur fish feels like its living in french alps!

anyway if i m not wrong, ro/di water has a lower pH than 7. cos due to the increased dissolved co2.

with the removal of minerals, the buffering capacity of the water is reduced too.

DI water, from what I've heard, is devoided of heavy ions and nutrients. The water will actually try to balance itself out by absorbing depleted ions and nutrients from the surroundings or living tissues. Thus, it'll be best to treat the DI water with trace elements before adding into the tank.

i dont think this is really necessary... if you control you PO4 level well with a FR and other alternative like Chaeto..you shoud not have any problem with algea problem..

I am not a chemist but i once heard a colleague mentioned that you cant drink DI (de-ionised) water as it will extract "calcium" from your bones.

Not good for health.

So i think it applies for our corals too.. You need to treat it before adding to tank. Probably the calcium in the tank will balance the side-effects..

Depends on the amount if DI resin & usage. A TDS meter will help you decide when your media is exhausted.

Sheng siong selling DI 1.5 l per carton of 12 bottles at $5. I think this is the cheapest among all supermarket. Correct me if I'm wrong.

My ex jurong west flat the tap water tds is always around 150. I think drink long term die.

Now i relocated to CCK tds drop almost half to abt 70-80.

i m staying at jurong west, my no3 and po4 are undetectable, but i m still having algae problems. i dun use ro/di , thats why i m wondering is ro/ di compulsory since marchie say that jurong's water is ard 150

What test kit you use to measure your PO4 and NO3?

I get near 0 reading for my PO4 3 months ago.

But still have red slime.

Get another test kit (Same brand) still the same near 0 reading.

Then one day a nice reefer help me to measure my PO4 with his Hanna PO4 tester

and the reading was so high. 0.48

So be very careful the reliability of the test kit you use.

Icic... I m only using salifert.. Maybe I shld get a Hanna tester to check my po4

In think some Most Colour test kit need a sharp eye to actually differentiate the Colour as some Colour is neither here nor there according to chart.
