Can my tank consist of only sea water frm the sea?

My house near the sea, is it possible to use pure sea water for my tank?

The waters in Singapore's seas are silty and polluted. IMO its not a good idea

People even go to the extent of getting an RO/DI unit for their tanks so seawater is totally OUT for me

well if u stay at tekong or other offshore island.... u might be able to...... my OC from tekong use the seawater to rear marine fish in his office................

Still i tink the water isn't good enough... if there's a oil spill, it will be worse...

How bout getting the seawater and going back to protein skimming it? Will it still be able to use? Hehe thinking bout this idea for a long time liao...

if u do it this way, then its not worth the effort...might as well get salt??

seawater that LFSes are selling are usually prefiltered...i prefer them to saltmix..but i know a lot of reefers will prefer otherwise...

as most mentioned, seawater around singapore is not very clean..look at the no. of ships running in singapore water..most importantly, sinagpore has the BUSIEST port so the water around us is not really clean...

NSW u buy from LFS is from SIngapore waters too.

it's true. Large trucks go to the beach and pump large amounts of water into their water tank and transports it to LFSes to be sold.

i have a few friends using water strait from the sea .... their live stock are doing fine .... need to cycle and check salinity and filter using carbon ..

i guess the only advantage of singapore's sea water is the high density of phytoplankton due to high nutrients. As far as i can remember, singapore water is either muddy with silts or greenish with high phytos density. but i read that singapore waters is still considered to be rich with marine life. wonder how that kind of water condition can support them.

Doing my new tank cycling now, added two dead prawn, and live rock.

btw, do I need to on the pump and filter to supply oxygen? [got some biohome inside it too]

Would suggest , find some experienced reefer near to your location to advise you.

u dun have circulation in your tank? U definitely need circulation.

add in all the biological filtration media that u intend to have now to let the bacteria colonise them.. all liverocks biohome etc.

Using a skimmer now. Btw, a LFS told mi to be careful when using carbon as a filter medium, he say that put in tank too long, fish would madi......is there any certain brand which is preferable? Types of carbon?
