Help! Black And Yellow Crystals Appearing In Water

Recommended Posts

:paiseh: Hi all reefers!

Something weird just happened in my tank like 2 hours ago, I saw quite a few small, black and some yellow crystals just appearing in my tank!

Ratio of black to yellow in terms of quantity is 9 : 1

Corals and fish seem normal...

But the black and yellow crystals are an eyesore and I was worried that overnight, disaster might happen?

Any one can tell me what that is?

Thanks guys!

Oh, some of my tank details

Hi ...thanks for the replies...

I checked...my bags holding filter media are tightly secured...

Only things, I have dosed are calcium and strontium...

The black and yellow particles sink to the sand bed, I have sucked most of them off, but I believe that they are still some in between the rocks...

Fish and corals look pretty alright today...normal...

Check the chemipure bag again. It sounds like the black carbon and yellow resins found in the bag.

Check whether you might have overdosed calcium or scrontium? I'm just making a guess..the yellow and black crystals sound abit towards iron or iodine based.

Maybe there is some ionic imbalance in your water causing certain ions to precipitate out?

Always something more important than fish.

Scrontium sounds like a good material for balls.

Iodide salts won't be precipitated in the saltwater tank. If it did, the water will be brown and everything will be dead and bleached white.

Iron maybe, not from ppt but from rust.
