Thanks for the info CalciumReef! :thanks:

What if I located the wavebox at the same end as the overflow but calculated the amplitude of the wave and designed the height of the overflow teeth so that at max and min amplitude there's water into overflow and the backing glass of the overflow is made higher to prevent water splashing over? Will that work you think?

:thanks:

Bro don't worry about locating the wavebox at the same end of the overflow box. Just make sure the overflow box's glass partition is about 4cm below eurobracing. Take note that 4cm is just a rough guide. You still have to refer to the frequency table to design your tank.I hope you understand what i'm taking about. Refer to the picture i drawn.

Calcium Reef,

Is the wavebox much better in size compare to the tunze stream? I'm thinking of adding another 6000, but wondering if I should go for the wavebox instead.

Thanks,

Patrick

Hi patrick, the wave box is much bigger than a stream....pls refer to page 1 of this thread...dimensions are stated and pictures for reference.

Haha! Got about 2" from eurobracing to the overflow box glass partition!

:yeah:

Thanks for the info, CalciumReef! :thanks:

Just make sure your tanks are reinforced beyond the normal method of construction as dynamic forces are far greater and that applies to your stand as well. Otherwise you might find the tank joints giving way and your fishes swimming happily in the living room... .

If a tank without much dynamic stresses can give way how much more for those that has it. When water sloshed around back and forth the applied force on the walls of the tank goes up and down, the silicon joints also stretch and retracts periodically. Nobody knows what the long term effects are at this moment. :nuke:

You might want to change your tank every 5 years.... as part of your insurance ...

Thanks for the info Robe! :thanks:

Will keep that in mind as well. Anyway, tank reinforced with eurobracing and Han Teck's reinforced silicon joints. :)

Wonder if this is the standard for tank makers

what is the consumption in terms of wattage??? What is the size of your tank that the wavebox is serving?? I spoke to Reef Depot and they recommended me to use a single wavebox + extension for my 5x2.5x2.5!... that is almost $1.4K!!!!

the wavebox is enough for my 4.5x1.5x2 tank.....so i suggest just get the wavebox now, try it, if not strong enough then get the extension....

btw, if you keeping SPS......wavebox without supplement might not be enough...;)

not intending to head towards SPS... maybe i consider getting a single wavebox plus the current 2x TS07...

so, wat is the wattage consumption anybody??

btw, with so much movement of water, would there be more salt spray as a result?

i think good enough....in fact the 2xTS07 might be an overkill if not going SPS.....

Any updates on this one? Especially interested on the compatibility of local tanks/stands with the wavebox.

Hi Melvyn... I just started running my Wavebox (in my Perc90 thread). Can't say much as I do not have any corals in my tank right now to really test it visually. Mine is a 3ft tank, so running at 50% only. Beyond that is quite noisy, can hear the pump roaring and also sound of water splashes as a result of water rushing back into the emptied black box. Water movement is not as chaotic as described, in fact quite gentle... part of the beauty of this product.

As for compatibility with local tank/stand... I don't know if the some bros exagerrated the effect of the Wavebox. Don't think it will break a good 12mm thick glass construction... or any good silicon joints. Of course, if the fundamental construction of the tank is flawed in the first place... then even without the Wavebox... it will give way. Hehe... that's why I go for a Perc90 :)

Ok, your experience is very much appreciated. I guess the "fear" of tank longevity issue (20% decrease in life expectancy) is unfounded?

The hydro-static pressure should be a non issue as far as the tank (normal types) is concerned. The concern however will be the dynamic water movement (like the suspended highway with dynamic loadings) which will not result in point loadings but dynamic loadings and whether this will create an issue from a structural point of view - from both the tank and stands.

Just wanna be sure,,,will be disastrous it the seams of the tank fails or the oscillation of the water in the tank swaying causing problems for the tank.

A well made tank should last a good 10 yrs.

So I have to wait for 10 years to upgrade... aiya... no excuse, lol.

Maybe becoz I am running it at 50%, the Wavebox doesn't create any swaying to the tank. I put both my hands on each side of the tank... observed very long... doesn't seem like affecting the tank at all. Full force... then I'm not sure... have yet to try.

bro, i think what he meant was that...

it doesn't physically sway the tank, so the tank doesn't move, even if it does it will be my like 1-2mm type.

but the water inside the tank sways, so everytime it sways to one side, there is more pressure, so it stretches the tank. i saw the clip that was attached earlier in the thread, see also scared. haha....

the stress to the tank is like having a little kid inside the tank constanting running from one side to another then banging each side... haha..

think it has to be a really good tank. but you shouldn't worry with yours bro jervi!!! haha :D
